# NHTSA recall 17V761000 A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups. - Published by: NHTSA \(United States\) - Campaign number: 17V761000 - Manufacturer's number: FL\-756 - Manufacturer: Daimler Trucks North America LLC - Reported: 2017\-11\-27 - Owners notified: 2018\-05\-09 - Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS - Units potentially affected: 438255 ## What is wrong Daimler Trucks North America, LLC \(DTNA\) is recalling certain 2008\-2018 Freightliner Cascadia, Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, and 6900 trucks. After hard brake applications, the brake light pressure switch may not activate the brake lights with a light application of the brake pedal. ## What can happen If the brake lights fail to illuminate, there would not be a signal to other motorists that the vehicle is slowing, increasing the risk of a crash. ## The remedy DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. Daimler issued interim notifications to owners on January 22, 2018. The recall began on May 9, 2018. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1\-800\-547\-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL\-756. ## Notes Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1\-888\-327\-4236 \(TTY 1\-800\-424\-9153\), or go to www.safercar.gov. ## Remedy progress the manufacturer reported - Report: Quarterly report 6, for 2019 quarter 3 - Filed with NHTSA: 2019\-10\-29 - Vehicles in the campaign: 438255 - Reported remedied: 316205 \(72%\) - Reported unreachable: 0 - Reported removed: 0 These are the manufacturer's totals for the whole campaign at the end of 2019 quarter 3, as filed with NHTSA. They do not say whether one vehicle has been remedied: check the VIN with the official lookups. The reports are from data as of 2026\-10\-19. ## Vehicles this campaign lists - [2008 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA](/makes/freightliner/cascadia/2008/recalls.md).
