Service bulletins for the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

POL08-042017-02-14. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; EQUIPMENT. WARRANTY POLICY BULLETIN (POL08-04): TOYOTA RECEIVED ISOLATED REPORTS REGARDING A SMALL NUMBER OF ‘01 THROUGH ‘04 MODEL YEAR TACOMA VEHICLES OPERATED IN SEVERE COLD CLIMATE AREAS WITH HIGH ROAD SALT USE. THEY WERE REPORTED TO BE EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE RUST CAUSING PERFORATION OF THE FRAME. TOYOTA INVESTIGATED THESE REPORTS AND DETERMINED THAT THE FRAMES FOR THIS SMALL NUMBER OF VEHICLES MAY NOT HAVE ADEQUATE CORROSION-RESISTANT PROTECTION FOR USE IN THIS ENVIRONMENT. THIS COMBINED WITH PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALTS AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS MAY CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXCESSIVE RUST IN THE FRAMES OF SOME VEHICLES.
