Mercedes\-Benz USA, LLC. \(MBUSA\) is recalling certain 2008\-2009 smart fortwo cabrio and fortwo coupe vehicles.  The rear insulation mat in the engine compartment may deform, deteriorate, and loosen over time, allowing the mat to contact hot exhaust system components. Built 2007\-09\-20 to 2009\-11\-02.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2018215](/recalls/tc/2018215.md), 2018-04-27: Engine. On certain vehicles, the rear insulation mat within the engine compartment might deform, deteriorate and loosen, allowing it to contact hot exhaust system components. This could lead to ignition of the insulation mat and increase the risk of an engine compartment fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the rear insulation mat.
