The affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 08V\-118, 09V\-116, and 15V\-201 to address the possibility that engine oil may drip onto the hot exhaust manifold. Built 1996\-11\-11 to 1999\-02\-09.
- [14V400000](/recalls/nhtsa/14V400000.md), 2014-07-03: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION. This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob \(if applicable\), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC \(GM\) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000\-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997\-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004\-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999\-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998\-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999\-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004\-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

- [03V527000](/recalls/nhtsa/03V527000.md), 2003-12-11: STEERING:RACK AND PINION. CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES HAVE LOWER PINION BEARINGS IN THE POWER RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY IN WHICH THE RETAINER TABS WERE NOT CRIMPED PROPERLY. THESE RETAINERS COULD FAIL AND PERMIT THE BALL BEARINGS TO ESCAPE. Built 1996\-11\-01 to 1997\-10\-31.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2015501](/recalls/tc/2015501.md), 2015-10-23: Engine. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under\-hood fire could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine’s front valve cover and front\-valve\-cover gasket with new parts. The engine’s plastic “beauty” cover and plastic oil\-fill\-tube extension will also be removed, if they haven’t been already. Note: This recall supersedes and is an expansion of recalls 2008\-081, 2009\-105 and 2015\-145. All vehicles having been inspected and/or serviced under the previous recall will require re\-inspection and repair.
- [2014284](/recalls/tc/2014284.md), 2014-07-03: Electrical. On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could allow the switch to move out of the "run" position if the key ring is carrying added weight or the vehicle goes off\-road or is subjected to some other jarring event. If this were to occur, engine power, power steering and power braking would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. The timing of the key movement out of the “run” position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may also result in the airbags not deploying in a subsequent collision, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: For each key, dealers will install two key rings and modify the key ring opening shape. Note: Until the correction is performed, all items should be removed from the key ring.
- [2009105](/recalls/tc/2009105.md), 2009-04-08: Engine. On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L naturally aspirated engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under\-hood fire could result in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will remove the spark plug wire retention channel at the front of the engine and install two new\-revised spark plug wire retainers.
- [2003336](/recalls/tc/2003336.md), 2003-12-16: Steering. On certain vehicles, the lower pinion bearings retainer tabs were not crimped properly. These retainers may fail and permit the ball bearings to escape. If the problem were to occur, the driver would have to exert more effort to turn the steering wheel. Correction: Dealers are to inspect the condition of the lower bearing, and replace the lower pinion bearing or the rack and pinion steering gear assembly, if necessary. This is an extension of recall 02\-199
- [2000051](/recalls/tc/2000051.md), 2000-03-06: Seats And Restraints. On certain vehicles, the rear seat shoulder belts may twist, allowing the webbing to be jammed in the retractor. When the shoulder belt webbing becomes jammed in the retractor, the seat belt becomes unusable. This condition could prevent a person from using the seat belt system, and risk of injury to an unbelted person in a vehicle crash would be increased. Correction: Dealers will remove any twists from the rear shoulder belts and install newly designed clips to the belt web guide to prevent twisting.
- [1998110](/recalls/tc/1998110.md), 1998-05-28: Lights And Instruments. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH C.M.V.S.S. 108 \- LIGHTING SYSTEM AND RETROREFLECTIVE DEVICES. THE ENGLISH OWNER MANUALS FOR THESE VEHICLES DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE HEADLAMP AIMING DEVICE. CORRECTION: DEALERS WILL PLACE AN OWNER'S MANUAL INSERT CONTAINING THE CORRECT INFORMATION ON HEADLAMP HORIZONTAL AIM IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL.
- [1998109](/recalls/tc/1998109.md), 1998-05-28: Lights And Instruments. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH C.M.V.S.S. 108 \- LIGHTING SYSTEM AND RETROREFLECTIVE DEVICES. THE ENGLISH OWNER MANUALS FOR THE OLDSMOBILE INTRIGUE AND THE ENGLISH AND FRENCH OWNER MANUALS FOR THE BUICK REGAL AND CENTURY VEHICLES DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE HEADLAMP AIMING DEVICE. CORRECTION: DEALERS WILL PLACE AN OWNER'S MANUAL INSERT CONTAINING THE CORRECT INFORMATION ON HEADLAMP HORIZONTAL AIM IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL.
