Service bulletins for the 2012 MINI Cooper Roadster

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

110 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

M1202122018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. N16 and N18 Engine: Engine Ventilation Heating Faults Stored in DME Fault Memory After Programming. After reprogramming the vehicle to integration level R056-11-11-503 (ISTA/P P45.1.3.0) or higher, one of the following fault codes are stored in the DME fault memory: Vehicles with N16 engine: * 2F42 Engine ventilation heating, Control The Service Engine Soon lamp is not illuminated. Vehicles with N18 engine: * 37DE Engine ventilation, heating, triggering: open circuit The Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. CAUSE Due to a DME software change, the diagnostic monitoring capability is improved for the engine ventilation heating system. However, a fault will be stored in the fault memory because the engine ventilation heater circuit has a malfunction currently present. One of the following may be the cause: * Loose or defective electrical connection * Missing or defective crankcase ventilation heater relay.
M1201142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. N16: Fault 274D Mixture Adaptation Is Stored in the DME. Certain low speed, light-load driving conditions at lower outside temperatures could cause the Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) to illuminate. The following fault would be stored in the DME: ??Fault 274D: Mixture adaptation, lower engine speed range (mixture too lean) CAUSE 1. Possible intake/exhaust leaks, or a faulty component as listed in the test plan 2. Unfavorable DME software.
M1101122018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "N16 and N18 Engine Oil Leak. The customer states that a small engine oil leak can be seen from the underside of the engine. CAUSE The internal sealing of the oil pump volume control solenoid valve is compromised, allowing engine oil to leak from the oil pump volume control solenoid. DIAGNOSTIC Below is the procedure for identifying how far the engine oil has migrated inside the engine electrical harness, when this issue occurs, if at all. The procedure must be followed very carefully so that the proper repair is identified. 1. Disconnect the oil pump volume control solenoid valve electrical connection per Repair Instructions 11 41 519 ""Removing and installing or replacing the solenoid valve (engine oil pump)."" Inspect the electrical connector; if no engine oil is found inside the electrical connector, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure. If engine oil is found inside the electrical connector, proceed to diagnostic procedure step 2. 2. Remove the cover from the DME and remove all three electrical connectors from the DME. Inspect the connectors for traces of engine oil. If no engine oil is found, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure and replace the engine section of the wire harness. Refer to EPC for the additional part number. If engine oil is found in the DME connector, proceed to step 3. 3. If engine oil is found in the DME electrical connector, perform the oil pump volume control valve repair procedure, replace the engine section of the wire harness and replace the DME. Refer to EPC for the additional part numbers. Do not remove the engine oil pan. Do not replace the oil pump volume control valve. Do not replace engine oil pump. OIL PUMP VOLUME CONTROL VALVE REPAIR"
M6502132018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "CHAMP2: Stored Radio Stations Deleted After Ignition Off. After ignition off, the stored radio stations (AM/FM and Satellite radio) are no longer available in: ? Menu ""PRESETS"" ? Preset buttons on the head unit Hardware error in the CHAMP2 head unit"
M6106072018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY. "Discharged Battery: Energy Diagnosis Must Be Performed. MINI electrical systems and advancements in vehicle technology have resulted in an increased demand on the vehicle battery. This SI will help the dealer handle ""discharged battery"" complaints. A discharged battery can have various causes, most unrelated to the battery. A failed battery is often the symptom and not the cause. A fully serviceable battery fails when an electrical component causes the battery to discharge; the battery becomes internally damaged and must be replaced. For more information, refer to http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-42B.htm. For this reason, replacing the battery is not usually a permanent repair. The cause of the discharged battery must be analyzed in order to guarantee a proper repair. To repair the vehicle properly the first time in the workshop, the diagnostic test plans must be performed to completion, with all results taken into consideration. Without performing the energy diagnosis test plan, the root cause of the discharged battery cannot be identified. This increases the chances of a repeat repair. Discharged battery."
M1201152018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Engine Misfire Due to Failed Ignition Coil. ? The Check Engine or Service Engine Soon (MIL) lamp is on with misfire fault(s) stored in the DME. ? Intermittent performance or rough running without a relevant DME fault stored The most likely cause is that an ignition coil has failed, which in many cases can be confirmed with basic diagnosis. During operation with high temperature fluctuations, the different materials used in the Bosch ignition coil construction can deteriorate over time, leading to a failure.
