Service bulletins for the 2018 Mazda Mazda3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

05-002-19-35762019-03-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. Some customers may complain of a whining noise from the automatic transaxle when driving at 10 mph and above. The noise: •Depends on the vehicle’s speed only (the more speed, the more noise)•Occurs with all types of driving (acceleration, deceleration, steady speed)•Does not depend on rpm, gear, or ATF temperature. This is caused by a damaged bearing in the transaxle due to improper configuration of the transaxle case. A modification has now been implemented on automatic transaxles with the following serial numbers: •7TN0820364 and higher (CX-3) / 8TN1090104 and higher (except CX-3) •8TR1008883 and higher •8TD1003276 and higher •8T50331192 and higher (CX-3) / 8T50329705 and higher (except CX-3).
03-001-19-3505b2019-03-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT. Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the right front driveshaft at the automatic transaxle when driving. This concern is likely to occur when driving at speeds between 37-50 mph (60-80 km/h) with the ATF at normal operating temperature. The noise is caused by stick/slip between the oil seal at the transaxle and the dust cover of the driveshaft. To correct this issue, the thickness of the dust cover has been increased.
01-010-19-35822019-03-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE. Some vehicles may experience a lack of power and the check engine light on with DTC P61B:00 stored in the PCM memory when driving in high temperatures at high elevations. DTC P061B:00 - [PCM] Internal control module torque calculation performance problem. This concern may be caused by improper PCM control logic. The engine torque calculation error may increase in high temperatures at high elevations. To eliminate this concern, the PCM software has been modified.
03-002-18-3505a2018-10-09. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT; POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:UNIVERSAL JOINT. Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the right front driveshaft at the transaxle when driving. This concern is likely to occur when driving at speeds between 37-50 mph (60-80 km/h) with the ATF at normal operating temperature. The noise is caused by stick/slip between the oil seal at the transaxle and the dust cover of the drive shaft. To correct this issue, the thickness of the dust cover has been increased.
SA-037-182018-09-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. Service part Automatic Transaxles (ATX) manufactured on or after July, 2018 are shipped with a blank TCM that requires configuration.

05-003-18-3460a2018-08-20. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION. Some customers who drive at elevations higher than 3,300 ft (1,000 m) may complain of a shift shock felt when shifting into 3rd, 5th and/or Reverse with no AT related DTCs stored. The symptom can be temporarily repaired using the AT initial learning procedure, but may recur after multiple driving cycles. Applicable situations: Shifting up: 2-3 or 4-5 Shifting down: 4-3 or 6-5 NOTE: Shifting from 2-3 or 4-3 is more likely to be felt due to the gear ratio. Shifting into Reverse: D-R, N-R or P-R Improper control logic of the TCM may cause improper learning of R-3-5 brake engaging speed when the vehicle is driven at high elevations. To correct this issue, the control logic of the TCM has been modified.

05-002-18-34542018-05-14. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. The new SKYACTIV-DRIVE FW6A-EL AT uses "Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Type: FZ". Only use"ATF-FZ" to fill or top off the fluid level. ATF-FZ is specially designed for use in the SKYACTIV-DRIVE series AT. It is a low viscosity formula with less friction for better fuel economy. NOTE: ATF-FZ is colored blue for easy identification.
