- [97V191000](/recalls/nhtsa/97V191000.md), 1997-11-01: STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:LINK:CONNECTION. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:  CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS.  DURING ASSEMBLY, INSUFFICIENT TORQUE OCCURRED OF THE DRAG LINK TO THE AXLE STEERING ARM CONNECTION.  IF THE DRAG LINK TO AXLE STTERING ARM CONNECTION IS NOT TORQUED AND THE COTTER PIN IS NOT INSTALLED, THE NUT COULD BACK OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. Built 1997\-01\-02 to 1997\-09\-11.

On certain vehicles, additional axles were installed to increase the gross vehicle weight capacity but the parking brake capacity was not increased accordingly therefore not complying with CMVSS 121 regulations.  Correction:  The dealer will perform repairs as necessary.

IF THE DRAG LINK AXLE STEERING ARM CONNECTION IS NOT TORQUED AND THE COTTER PIN IS NOT INSTALLED, THE NUT COULD BACK OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.  IF THE NUT BACKS OFF, THERE COULD BE LOSS OF DRIVER CONTROL. CORRECTION: A TORQUE CHECK/CORRECTION WILL BE PERFORMED ON THE DRAG LINK TO STEERING AXLE CONNECTION.
