In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push\-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake\-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control \(ESC\) malfunction light to illuminate. Built 2006\-11\-21 to 2011\-06\-24.

A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE\-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL \(ESC\) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. ## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2020064](/recalls/tc/2020064.md), 2020-02-19: Brakes. Issue: On certain vehicles, moisture can enter the brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit \(HECU\) and cause a short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk. This can happen even if the vehicle is parked. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a relay to power off the HECU when the vehicle is turned off. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.
- [2013098](/recalls/tc/2013098.md), 2013-04-03: Brakes. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the switch.
- [2011332](/recalls/tc/2011332.md), 2011-09-09: Airbag. On certain vehicles, the Occupant Classification System \(in the right front seat\) may misinterpret an incorrectly seated adult as a small stature adult or a child, thereby deactivating the passenger frontal airbag. Failure of the passenger frontal airbag to deploy during a crash \(where deployment is warranted\) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will update the Occupant Classification System software.
- [2009140](/recalls/tc/2009140.md), 2009-05-14: Electrical. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. This could prevent proper brake lamp operation. Failure of the brake lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death. A malfunction of the switch may also cause the brake lamps to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. Additionally, a faulty switch may affect the operation of the brake\-transmission shift interlock on automatic transmission\-equipped vehicles so that the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of PARK position. It may also cause the Electronic Stability Control \(ESC\) light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Correction: Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch assembly.
