- [13V114000](/recalls/nhtsa/13V114000.md), 2013-04-01: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH. Kia Motors Corporation \(Kia\) is recalling certain model year 2007\-2010 Rondo, model year 2007\-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010\-2011 Soul, model year 2008\-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007\-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007\-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007\-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010\-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push\-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake\-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control \(ESC\) malfunction light to illuminate. Built 2007\-01\-31 to 2010\-07\-30.
- [12V014000](/recalls/nhtsa/12V014000.md), 2012-01-17: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL. KIA MOTORS AMERICA, INC. \(KIA\) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006\-2008 KIA OPTIMA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 29, 2005, THROUGH JANUARY 29, 2008, AND MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 KIA RONDO VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 13, 2006, THROUGH MARCH 21, 2008. THE CLOCK SPRING CONTACT ASSEMBLY FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM \(SRS\) MAY BECOME DAMAGED THROUGH USAGE OVER TIME. IF THE CLOCK SPRING CONTACT ASSEMBLY BECOMES DAMAGED, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT WILL EXPERIENCE A HIGH RESISTANCE CONDITION POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG TO NOT DEPLOY. Built 2006\-09\-13 to 2008\-03\-21.
- [09V130000](/recalls/nhtsa/09V130000.md), 2009-04-17: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH. HUYNDAI\-KIA IS RECALLING 139,844 MY 2006\-2007\- SEDONA, SPORTAGE, SORENTO AND MY RONDO AND AMANTI VEHICLES. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE\-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL \(ESC\) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. Built 2006\-09\-20 to 2007\-01\-30.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2013098](/recalls/tc/2013098.md), 2013-04-03: Brakes. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the switch.
- [2012014](/recalls/tc/2012014.md), 2012-01-18: Airbag. On certain vehicles, the clockspring assembly for the driver's airbag may become damaged and fail. As a result the airbag may not function as intended, and the instrument panel warning lamp would illuminate. Failure of the driver's frontal airbag to deploy during a crash \(where deployment is warranted\) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag clockspring assembly.
- [2009140](/recalls/tc/2009140.md), 2009-05-14: Electrical. On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. This could prevent proper brake lamp operation. Failure of the brake lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death. A malfunction of the switch may also cause the brake lamps to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. Additionally, a faulty switch may affect the operation of the brake\-transmission shift interlock on automatic transmission\-equipped vehicles so that the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of PARK position. It may also cause the Electronic Stability Control \(ESC\) light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Correction: Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch assembly.
- [2008342](/recalls/tc/2008342.md), 2008-09-22: Fuel System. On certain vehicles, an incorrect dimensional characteristic of the fuel pumps upper body can result in a misalignment of the armature shaft, which may cause some fuel pumps to experience poor brush\-to\-commutator contact conditions. In addition use of a 10 percent ethanol blend fuel can cause a film built\-up that creates a high resistance between the brush and the commutator. The misaligned armature shaft prevents the brush and the commutator from making sufficient contact to overcome the high resistance film build\-up between the brush and commutator. As a result the fuel pump may produce less pumping pressure than required to supply the fuel injection system resulting in poor starting or hesitation. Loss of propulstion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly.
