If none are related to transmission performance, test drive the vehicle and attempt to duplicate the customers concern. If the rough shifting occurs during one or more of the events listed above, then this is a known issue. Engineering is aware and developing a resolution to address these concerns. A Quick Learn can be performed to improve these concerns. But the concerns may reappear again and another Quick Learn may need to be performed. Valve body and/or transmission replacement WILL NOT correct these concerns. If DTC?s for the transmissions performance are found. Follow the DTC flow charts to root cause the customer concern.

GEAR, Rack and Pinion If looking to replace the rack and pinion due to a clunking / knocking noise, please use the Chassis Ear Tool to pinpoint the exact location of the noise following the proper diagnostics. The points where you should place the chassis ear tool in sequence are: steering column, rack and pinion, intermediate shaft or the outer tie rod of the rack and pinion. Also ensure all related components are properly torqued such as shock absorbers, steering column, lower ball joints, stabilizer links, sway bar links and cradle mount bolts (front and rear).
