# Recalls that may apply to the 1997 International 4700

A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups.

## United States (NHTSA), as of 2026-10-19

- [04V009000](/recalls/nhtsa/04V009000.md), 2004-01-05: SUSPENSION:REAR. ON CERTAIN AMBULANCES EQUIPPED WITH GOODRICH VELVET\-RIDE REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEMS, THE BOLTS CONNECTING THE SUSPENSION SPRING TO THE REAR AXLE MAY BREAK. Built 1993\-12\-02 to 2001\-04\-08.
- [03V062000](/recalls/nhtsa/03V062000.md), 2003-02-25: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC. ON CERTAIN SCHOOL AND TRANSIT BUSES BUILT WITH BOSCH ZERO OFFSET PIN SLIDE \(ZOPS\) HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES, THE ZOPS HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES MAY EXPERIENCE CALIPERS STICKING IN THE APPLIED POSITION, WHICH CAN RESULT IN EXCESSIVE OR ABNORMAL HEAT GENERATION AT ONE OR MORE OF THE BRAKES.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2004048](/recalls/tc/2004048.md), 2004-02-05: Brakes. On certain vehicles, the Bosch Zero Offset Pin Slide \(ZOPS\) hydraulic disc brakes may experience calipers sticking in the applied position, which can result in excessive or abnormal heat generation at one or more of the brakes. In bus applications, the combination of the following factors may collectively result in an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety: potential fire at a wheel end, high incident rates of stuck calipers, and evacuation and containment concerns relating to multiple passengers. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs. This is an expansion of Recall 2003053.
- [2003049](/recalls/tc/2003049.md), 2003-02-28: Seats And Restraints. On certain vehicles built with Bostrum driver seat models \(910, 910C, or 914\) and with International's parking brake code 04036. If someone outside the cab adjusts/slides the driver's seat to its most forward position, with the parking brake set, the seat will contact and release the parking brake lever. This could cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly and possibly result in an accident. Correction: A stop\-bracket will be installed on the seat track to limit the travel of the seat so that it can not release the parking brake lever when the seat is adjusted to its most forward position. This is an expansion of recall 01\-088.
- [2002113](/recalls/tc/2002113.md), 2002-06-17: Brakes. On certain trucks the fitting that connects the double check valve to the rear axle air brake relay valve may break. If the fitting breaks the rear service brakes will cease to operate, resulting in an extended stopping distance, possibly resulting in a collision.
- [1999025](/recalls/tc/1999025.md), 1999-02-22: Steering. On certain vehicles, the tie rod end can pull outboard and separate from the tie rod tube due to improper thread engagement between the male tie rod end and the female tube. A separation of the tie rod end could result in loss of steering control and a possible crash. Correction: The complete tie rod assembly will be replaced on involved vehicles.
- [1998224](/recalls/tc/1998224.md), 1998-11-13: Fuel System. On certain vehicels, a fuel leak could occur during normal operation because of over crimping of the hose end fittings on the hose from the regulator to the left head and the hose from the fuel transfer pump to the regulator. Should a fuel leak occur on a hot engine, a fire could result. Correction: Fuel hoses will be replaced with properly crimped hoses.
- [1998117](/recalls/tc/1998117.md), 1998-06-04: Powertrain. THE DOUBLE NEUTRAL SHIFT CONTROL LEVER MAY BIND AS THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO PUT THE LEVER IN THE PARK POSITION. IF THIS OCCURS THE LEVER DOES NOT ACTUALLY REACH THE FULL PARK POSITION WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FALSE PARK CONDITION. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING IF PARKED ON AN INCLINE. CORRECTION: THE DOUBLE SHIFT CONTROL WILL BE REPLACED WITH A REDESIGNED SHIFT CONTROL AND A FINAL ADJUSTMENT WILL BE MADE TO THE CABLE AFTER THE NEW SHIFT CONTROL IS INSTALLED.
- [1997153](/recalls/tc/1997153.md), 1997-09-09: Engine. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD MATERIAL IS EXCESSIVELY BRITTLE AND MAY BREAK DURING A HARD FULL THROTTLE APPLICATION. SHOULD THE ROD BREAK, THE ENGINE WOULD RETURN TO IDLE. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN INABILITY TO PROPERLY ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE IN A CIRCUMSTANCE WHICH COULD CAUSE A VEHICULAR ACCIDENT WITHOUT WARNING. CORRECTION: ACCELERATOR RODS ON AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEW RODS.
- [1997021](/recalls/tc/1997021.md), 1997-01-29: Suspension. THE REAR AXLE PINION MAY CRACK AND EVENTUALLY BREAK AT THE PINION THREAD LOCATION. THIS COULD CAUSE SEPARATION OF THE THREADED END OF THE PINION RESULTING IN SUBSEQUENT SEPARATION OF THE YOKE AND DRIVE LINE FROM THE REAR AXLE. A SEPARATED YOKE AND DRIVE LINE COULD POSE A HAZARD TO OTHER USERS OF THE ROADWAY AND ALSO AFFECT VEHICLE STABILITY AND CONTROL. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION: REAR AXLE CARRIER PINION ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
- [1996132](/recalls/tc/1996132.md), 1996-09-10: Steering. THE TUBE PORTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN HAS A WELDED END WHICH IS 3.5 INCHES LONG INSTEAD OF THE SPECIFIED 5.5 INCHES. WITH THE SHORTER END IT IS POSSIBLE THERE IS INSUFFICIENT ENGAGEMENT OF THE MALE END INTO THE TUBE PORTION AND SEPARATION OF THE COLUMN COULD OCCUR. THIS WOULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION: INCORRECTLY BUILT STEERING COLUMNS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW STEERING COLUMN.
