ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, ONE OF THE DIODES USED IN THE ALTERNATOR MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED WHEN BUILT.  THIS CAN EVENTUALLY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE DIODE AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH COULD MELT THE PLASTIC HOUSING. Built 1997\-02\-13 to 1998\-02\-27.

ONE OF THE DIODES USED IN THE ALTERNATOR MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED WHEN BUILT.  THIS CAN EVENTUALLY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE DIODE AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH COULD MELT THE PLASTIC HOUSING. Built 1997\-03\-01 to 1997\-07\-31.

- [2002117](/recalls/tc/2002117.md), 2002-06-24: Electrical. On certain vehicles one of the diodes used in the alternator may have been damaged when built. This can eventually result in failure of the diode and an electrical short, which could melt the plastic housing. If the combustible gas emitted by the melting plastic does not disperse due to air flow through the engine compartment, it could ignite and in turn ignite the fan guide in the alternator. Correction: dealers will replace the alternator.
- [1999106](/recalls/tc/1999106.md), 1999-06-01: Electrical. On certain vehicles, a damaged alternator diode may result in diode failure and a short circuit in the diode assembly.  This could result in melting of the plastic housing and a possible alternator fire.  Correction:  Alternator will be replaced.
