Performing a diesel particulate filter \(DPF\) manual regeneration using the appropriate Ford scan tool will fail resulting in a loss of communication error. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

To perform the manual regeneration, go to the Toolbox tab \> Powertrain \> Service Functions \> Diesel Particulate Regeneration System \> DPF Manual Regeneration. The scan tool may indicate that a regeneration of the DPF is not recommended at this time, selecting YES on this screen will allow the regeneration process to complete. To perform the DPF parameter reset, go to the Toolbox tab \> Powertrain \> Service Functions \> Diesel Particulate Regeneration System \> DPF Parameter Reset.
