The Engine Control Module \(ECM\) in certain vehicles may not properly clear the DTC U1962 \(Unable to Authenticate Serial Data Message\). If a communications fault were to occur, the DTC will remain set with the Malfunction Indicator Light \(Check Engine Light\) illuminated even if the condition resolves. Clearing the DTC with a service tool will not clear the permanent status of the DTC which could result in an emissions Inspection/Maintenance \(I/M\) test failure. Dealers are to reprogram the ECM.
