SOME OF THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 104, "WINDSHIELD WIPING AND WASHING SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE A WIPER SYSTEM MICROPROCESSOR THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO VOLTAGE TRANSIENTS, WHICH CAN CAUSE A "LATCH\-UP" CONDITION IN THE SYSTEM CONTROLLER. Built 2000\-03\-01 to 2000\-08\-31.

A person trapped in the trunk may not be able to release the trunk latch using the emergency trunk release handle.  Correction:  Dealers are to secure the emergency trunk release cable.
- [2001272](/recalls/tc/2001272.md), 2001-11-14: Other. Certain vehicles have an improperly programmed vehicle theft deterrent system. Correction: dealers will reprogram the system.
- [2000271](/recalls/tc/2000271.md), 2000-11-17: Visual System. Certain vehicles do not comply with CMVSS 104 \- Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems.  Malfunctioning microprocessor may cause a "latch\-up" condition in the wiper system controller.  If this occurs, the operator will not be able to operate the system in both the low and high\-speed modes required by the standard.  Correction: Dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor cover which contains the microprocessor..
