# Recalls that may apply to the 2021 BMW R 1250 RT

A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups.

## United States (NHTSA), as of 2026-10-19

- [23V011000](/recalls/nhtsa/23V011000.md), 2023-01-18: POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:INTERNAL:SHAFT:INPUT. BMW of North America, LLC \(BMW\) is recalling certain 2019\-2023 R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, and R1250RTP motorcycles. In certain engine operating and riding conditions, the gearbox input shaft may become damaged or break, possibly resulting in a blocked rear wheel.
- [20V495000](/recalls/nhtsa/20V495000.md), 2020-08-20: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS. BMW of North America, LLC \(BMW\) is recalling certain 2021 R 1250 RT, R 1250 R, R 1250 RS, R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure motorcycles. The tire pressure labels may not remain affixed to the motorcycle frame. As a result, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 120, "Wheels and Rims\-Other Than Passenger Cars."

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2023009](/recalls/tc/2023009.md), 2023-01-18: Powertrain. Issue: On certain motorcycles, a sudden difference in speed between the engine and rear wheel could damage the gearbox input shaft or cause it to break. If this happens, the rear wheel could lock up while riding. Note: This type of sudden change in rear wheel speed is uncommon, but may happen in an off\-road situation where a spinning rear wheel slows suddenly while landing after a jump. Safety Risk: A rear wheel that locks suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your motorcycle to a dealership to update the engine management software.
- [2020570](/recalls/tc/2020570.md), 2020-11-24: Brakes. Issue: On certain motorcycles, the front brake calipers may leak a small amount of brake fluid when parked. Over a long time, this could empty the fluid reservoir. If this happens, the motorcycle will have reduced brake performance. This problem may result in brake fluid on the front tire or wheel, and on the ground after the motorcycle has been parked for an extended period. The owner's manual has information for how to check the brake fluid level before riding. Note: This recall replaces BMW recall 34 003 20 \(008\) \(Transport Canada recall 2020\-377\). Motorcycles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: Reduced front brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to inspect the front brakes. The calipers will be replaced, if necessary.
