Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW 535d

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

B0703142018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE; STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B07 03 14 dated October 2015. Diagnosing Stored Fault Codes to Help Avoid Repeat Repair Visits. Fault codes stored in vehicles being serviced are not being diagnosed, leading to repeat repair visits (source- Analysis of FASTA data and repeat repair visit reports). INFORMATION Where diagnosis (vehicle or short test) with ISTA has already started, it is important to diagnose the fault code(s) listed below (when they are stored in the vehicle) to find their root cause during the current workshop visit. This will help lead to a reduction in workshop repeat repair visits and higher customer satisfaction.
B1111152018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. ?SERVICE ACTION: REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT New information provided by this revision. Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 11 11 15 dated January 2016.
B1111152018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM. SI B11 11 15 January 2016 Engine Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 11 11 15 dated August 2015. The Service Engine Soon light is on with corresponding fault codes in the DME for the engine thermostat.
B1111172018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye.
B1101132018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. N63 AND N63T ENGINE: ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, ENGINE OIL TOP-UPS AND REFILL CAPACITY. Customers with one of the vehicles above may complain that the engine's oil consumption is "too high," resulting in engine oil top-ups and workshop visits to address the issue before the vehicle displays an engine oil service as being "due." When the vehicle's engine oil drops to the minimum level, a message will display in the vehicle advising the driver to "add 1 quart of engine oil." After topping up and continued operation, the "add engine oil" message may display again before an engine oil service is required and performed. CAUSE Engines that are fitted with a turbocharger, as part of their normal operation, will consume engine oil at a higher rate than a naturally aspirated engine (non-turbocharged engine). In this case, a "turbocharged" engine could require topping up of the engine oil more frequently.
B1609182018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL. SCR SYSTEM FAULT 805256 STORED IN VERY COLD WEATHER. After the vehicle is exposed to prolonged temperatures under -9°C (15.8°F) and is then driven a long distance when temperatures are above -9°C (15.8°F), the check engine light may be illuminated. The following fault may be stored in the Digital Diesel Electronics (DDE) 805256 - Active tank filling level sensor, signal: echo fault In low temperature under -9°C (15.8°F) a layer of ice may form in the active tank. This can result in an incorrect level measurement after the vehicle is driven.
B1101172018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. N63T AND S63T ENGINE: VALVE SEAL REPLACEMENT. This SI provides a new tool and a new procedure for the N63TU valve seals replacement. Please refer to the following applicable SIBs before replacing the valve seals. SI B11 07 11 - Turbocharger Failure: Oil Supply and Return Line Blockage and Proper Repairs SI B11 01 13 - N63 and N63TU Engines: Engine Oil Consumption, Engine Oil Top-ups and Refill Capacity SI B11 03 13 - Engine Oil Consumption (all models) SI B11 04 13 - N63TU Engine: Engine Oil Consumption If the valve seals are leaking, one of the following will help determine if the seals should be replaced. 1221142018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. SI B12 21 14February 2015 Engine Electrical SystemsTechnical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B12 21 14 dated December 2014. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Engine Malfunction Warning Illuminated with FC 193208: Fuel Level Plausibility Stored in DME. The customer states that the engine malfunction warning lamp is illuminated, and while filling the fuel tank, the fuel gauge did not show the proper fill level. After the vehicle is driven a short distance, the fuel gauge will update to full. When diagnosed, the following fault is stored in the DME: z FC 193208 Fuel level, plausibility: deviation between consumption and level change Please proceed to the Procedure section. Vehicles with option 610 (Head-Up Display) are not affected. Please follow the ISTA/D test plan for the applicable faults stored in the DME, including the one listed in this bulletin. CAUSE A software error in the instrument cluster causes the fuel gauge to incorrectly update while refilling. The error occurs when the vehicle is powered up after refilling.
B5116152018-11-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS; ENGINE. "Delivery Stop: Remove Engine Oil Label. Affected vehicles in dealer inventory must not be retailed or delivered until the label is removed. Vehicles at ports of entry will be remedied prior to dealer delivery. On affected vehicles, there is an incorrect label regarding the appropriate engine oil. Affected vehicles can be identified with a ""Vehicle Comment"" in the DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or ISPA Light. https://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/248...9/3/2016 Page 2 of 2"

B1218162018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE: NO OIL PRESSURE. Check Control message: Oil pressure warning. Stop carefully is displayed. There are no related faults to oil pressure stored in the DDE. Unfavorable DDE software application When operating during automatic engine start-stop function stop, it may be the case that the oil pressure is incorrectly determined to be too low, which triggers a CC message.
