Service bulletins for the 2008 Audi S5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

355 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

G12++ coolant (for service available) has been introduced in MY 2005 for all engines. G13 has been introduced in MY 2008 as factory filling and service.
A171782 2010043-2018-02-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. This informational bulletin contains all the the Audi Oil Quality Standards that should be used when doing an oil change.
Update Bulletin2017-12-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. MIL on for random cylinder misfires during cold start. This Update is in effect until removed. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 24AL code in the Elsa Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair. Vehicle must be within the FEDERAL EMISSIONS warranty. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale. The MIL may illuminate for random cylinder misfire if the coolant temperature is between 18° and 36°C.
A171453 2038129-2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 14-50 dated August 15, 2014. A check with the engine oil service dipstick T40178 is necessary, but the adjustment values for the dipstick are not available in the Elsa repair manual. Because of a system change, the adjustment values for the service dipstick T40178 were removed from the repair manual.
Campaign Circula2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ENGINE. For certain 2008 model year Audi S5 vehicles, the 24AY Emissions Service Action replaces the 24AM Emissions Service Action. The 24AY action must be completed on all vehicles regardless if 24AM was completed or not. Some vehicles may experience random cylinder misfires during cold start or warm up which could cause the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to come on. If the MIL is on because of this issue, a vehicle will not pass an IM (emissions) inspection. Install improved engine control module (ECM) software.
A011317 2034871-2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. MIL on. DTCs are stored in the engine control module. Hydrocarbons form carbon deposits when low-quality fuel is combined with a short distance driving cycle. The carbon deposits interrupt tumble for efficient fuel/air mixture, which causes cold start misfire.
A551327 2023967-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 55 number 12-24 dated August 7, 2012. "Low Oil Level" message is on in the DIS or MMI. The hood must be open for at least 30 seconds for a reset of this message to be performed. The message is not reset in the DIS/MMI because the hood has not been recognized as being opened due to an inoperative hood contact switch.
A011369 2028344-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 01 number 12-57 dated October 29, 2012. Noises/inconsistent engine operation after cold start during the catalyst heating phase. The customer may interpret this engine roughness as misfiring. To comply with the legal requirements on exhaust gas emissions according to the LEV-1 and LEV-2 standards, a high exhaust gas quality must be ensured. The necessary catalyst only operates at a temperature over 300°C (572°F). To achieve this, the catalyst is heated up. The catalyst heating phase is achieved by a late ignition angles and by introducing additional fresh air to the exhaust valves (secondary air system). Late ignition angles make sure that the exhaust gas from the cylinders has a higher temperature. This exhaust gas includes fuel that is un-burnt, and was deliberately injected into great quantities. The secondary air system adds fresh air to the exhaust gas as it leaves the cylinder and the extra fuel is burnt. As a result, the temperatures of the exhaust gas and of the catalyst increase quickly. The afterburning in the exhaust manifold before the catalyst changes the sound characteristic of the engine. This heating-up of the catalyst, including afterburning, is normal and has no effect on the service life of the engine. During this catalyst heating phase, the engine has increased idle speed, may have increased vibrations, and has a different sound characteristic. Depending on conditions, the time of the catalyst heating phase varies.
A191335 2025303-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 19 number 11-19 dated February 10, 2011. Discontinuation and mixing of Audi-approved engine coolants. G11, G12, and G12+ coolants have been replaced by an improved version. G12++ coolant (for service available) has been introduced in MY 2005 for all engines. G13 has been introduced in MY 2008 as factory filling and service.

A171565 2038129-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 17 number 15-63 dated June 2, 2015. A check with the engine oil service dipstick T40178 is necessary, but the adjustment values for the dipstick are not available in the Elsa repair manual. Because of a system change, the adjustment values for the service dipstick T40178 were removed from the repair manual.
A191563 2042328-2017-11-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The red coolant light is illuminated, indicating that the coolant temperature is too high or that the coolant level is too low. The engine speed governing light is illuminated with the message ?Engine speed maximum XXXX rpm?. To prevent the engine from overheating, the engine speed is automatically limited to the displayed maximum. DTCs are stored in the ECM. Tolerances of opening spring in thermostat cause the condition.
