Service bulletins for the 2013 Audi A6
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| A911398 2030465- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 12-65 dated October 25, 2012. MMI 3G+ Sound system "popping" and various other technical Issues (K0715 Update). Only apply this bulletin to vehicles if the customer complaint is in the correct group. Applying the update to vehicles outside of the appropriate group can cause repeat repairs and the warranty claim may be denied. This bulletin only applies to vehicles with Navigation Plus (PR Number 8DY). The applicable vehicles can be clearly identified by the SIM card slot on the faceplate of the front MMI mainunit. |
| A941326 2031378- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:SWITCH. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 94 number 12-93 dated October 25, 2012. Cap on dimmer knob (light switch) has fallen off and cannot be found. |
| A961373 2034322- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:ANTI-THEFT DEVICES. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 97 number 13-36 dated July 10, 2013. The vehicle alarm activates for no reason and it cannot be turned off. The alarm horn does not work. DTC/fault symptom combinations are found in the comfort system control module. The DTC can be static or sporadic. The wiring harness insulation for the alarm horn can be damaged during the vehicle production assembly. Because the cable is routed through the plenum chamber, water can enter into the cable via the damaged insulation. The water causes the alarm to activate for no reason or it causes the alarm horn to not work. |
| AWA-13-07 | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. As part of Audi's ongoing commitment to our environment, Audi is extending the Emissions Control Systems Warranty to cover cleaning of the engine cylinder head secondary air ports to remove carbon buildup under specific conditions to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's original in-service date for certain 2009-12 Model Year Audi vehicles with 3.2L engine, and certain 2009-2013 Model Year Audi vehicles with 3.0T engines. The vehicle's original in-service date is defined as the date the vehicle was delivered to either the original purchaser or the original lessee; or if the vehicle was first placed in service as a "demonstrator" or "company" car, on the date such vehicle was first placed in service. The warranty extension is fully transferable to subsequent owners. Audi has determined that under certain driving conditions, carbon buildup can occur in the engine cylinder head secondary airports. Due to the presence of specific fault codes caused by this carbon buildup, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the instrument cluster may illuminate. The MIL is part of the on-board diagnostic system. In some locales, an illuminated MIL could cause the vehicle to fail an IM emissions inspection, vehicle registration application could be denied. Audi will diagnose, and if necessary clean the engine cylinder head secondary air ports to remove the carbon buildup at no cost to the customer as long as the vehicle is within the time and mileage limits of the warranty extension. This warranty extension covers only the diagnosis and cleaning of the cylinder head secondary air ports to remove the carbon buildup. Reimbursement is applicable only to the repairs described in this Warranty Bulletin. |
| Customer Letter | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Audi has determined that, under certain driving conditions, carbon buildup can occur in the engine cylinder head secondary air ports. Due to the presence of specific fault codes caused by this carbon buildup, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on the instrument cluster may illuminate. The MIL is part of your on-board diagnostic system. Please refer to your owner's manual for additional information about the MIL. In some locales, an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp could cause your vehicle to fail an IM emissions inspection, and your vehicle registration application could be denied. Please be aware that other conditions (unrelated to the issue described in this letter) may cause the MIL in your vehicle to illuminate. Customers should be prepared to cover all diagnosis and repair costs for these other, unrelated conditions. |
| Dealer Letter - | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This communication is to inform you of upcoming Update 24Z6. On Audi vehicles with a 3.0L TFSI engine produced during a certain period, it is possible that the membrane on the vacuum actuator for the intake manifold flaps may tear. As a result, the intake manifold flaps do not function and the engine indicator light turns on. Install new manifold actuators. |
| Dealer Letter - | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. STEERING. This communication is to inform you of upcoming Update 48K8. When making minor steering movements while driving in a straight line in Audi vehicles with electromechanical power steering manufactured within a specific period, the customer may occasionally perceive slight irregularities with the assistance provided by the power steering. This phenomenon mainly occurs when the temperature is around the freezing point. This is a comfort-related issue; therefore no warning symbol lights up. Update the power steering control unit to the latest software. |

| A911396 2026390- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 12-38 dated March 2, 2012. When a phonebook with a large number of contacts is being downloaded, the MMI screen freezes in one of the following scenarios: * After the initial Bluetooth connection (shortly after the phone is bonded to the vehicle), the screen freezes briefly. * After the ignition is switched on (shortly after the phone automatically reconnects with the vehicle). * After the phonebook has downloaded. * When the voice recognition system is used, a message appears in the MMI screen stating that the phone book is too large and that the voice recognition system cannot be used. The command "Call <Name from directory>" is a global MMI command that is available in the telephone menu and main menu screens. If either menu is displayed, the message can appear when the voice recognition button (push to talk) on the steering wheel is pressed. |
| A941325 2034735- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. Heavy condensation present in the headlight. Lower headlight lens cracking. Upper headlight housing cracking (at transition from lens to black surround). No visible external force marks (from accident or flying debris) are present. One or both sides may be affected. The vehicle is not equipped with halogen headlights. The production process causes stress on the headlights from the bumper, as well as torsion force from installation. The moisture is an optical condition that does not affect the function or performance of the headlights and it will not lead to corrosion or damage of the internal headlight parts. |
| A961367 2019260- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 96 number 12-37 dated June 11, 2012. The customer may report that the handheld transmitter cannot be programmed to the garage door opener control module, J530. The customer's door opener system may not be compatible with J530. The battery in the handheld transmitter may be too weak for a good signal. The battery charge may be sufficient to operate the garage door opener, but not enough to program the remote transmitter to the vehicle system. In A4 Model Years 2005 - 2006 and A3 Model Year 2009, the actual location of the garage door opener control module differs from the location shown in the owner's manual (opposite side of front bumper). The customer may misunderstand the programming procedure, particularly if the customer's HomeLink® opener system is using an alternate code. The handheld transmitter's programming function may become inoperative, or the transmitter is too far away from J530. Interference prevents the communication between handheld transmitter and J530. If the vehicle flashes during the programming of a handheld transmitter, this does not necessarily indicate that the programming was successful; it only indicates that the vehicle has recognized and saved a signal. |
| A961368 2029384- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 96 number 13-64 dated June 20, 2013. The customer is able to program one or more of the Homelink buttons using their garage door remote, but after a few days or weeks, one or more of the programmed Homelink buttons no longer functions. The LED on the Homelink button that is no longer functioning now flashes slowly, indicating that no programming is stored. The customer's transmitter operates at 295Mhz. No DTCs are stored in any control units. At the workshop, the Homelink system can be programmed to the workshop garage door successfully. No trouble is found. The garage door opener control module, J530, was designed with an operational frequency range in which the 295Mhz frequency works correctly during the initial programming of the system. Over time, the transmitting frequency can drift out of range (especially in warmer climates), causing the system to lose its programming. |
| A961369 2034516- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST. Road lane markings are not detected or the Audi lane assist system is inoperative after the lane assist camera control module, J852, has been calibrated, the windshield has been replaced, or the air suspension level sensors have been adapted. A DTC for incorrect calibration may be stored in the camera control module (address word 85). The camera control module has not been properly calibrated; there is no technical problem. |
| A971336 2034322- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:HORN; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:ANTI-THEFT DEVICES. The vehicle alarm activates for no reason and it cannot be turned off. The alarm horn does not work. TC/fault symptom combinations are found in the comfort system control module, J393 (address word 46). |
| Dealer Letter - | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY; EQUIPMENT. This communication is to inform you of upcoming Update 68E3. On certain Audi A6 and A8 vehicles equipped with an electric sun blind for the rear window (3Y2, 3Y5, 3Y8), the blind may stop functioning if it is fully extended several times in quick succession. | A911392 2030947- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 12-61 dated September 25, 2012. The customer complains that when he or she is trying to place a phone call from the vehicle while using a Bluetooth®-connected phone, the phone call disconnects before it begins and an error shows on the MMI display. The message may be "Function not supported" or "Network error". The customer is using a phone with the Android operating system. In addition, Skype®, or another network-based communication software, is installed on the phone. Call can be placed directly from the phone without a problem. When the phone gets the request to place a call from the vehicle, a prompt appears on the phone asking the user to choose how the call should be placed. If the prompt is ignored, the MMI system disconnects the call assuming the phone is not responding. |
| A911389 2034360- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Customer states that the BOSE sound system does not have enough bass. This bulletin only applies to vehicles with BOSE sound system. The current sound system equalization provides a flat frequency response, which many customers may perceive as not having enough bass. |
| A871343 2020124- | 2017-12-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 87 number 13-42 dated June 11, 2013. Air conditioning is inoperative. The HVAC blower functions normally. Battery discharged; however, when charged, there is no bus silence when vehicle ignition is off. The A/C pressure/temperature sensor, G395, leaks refrigerant. This causes sensor G395 to show an incorrect or implausible value when reading MVBs. An incorrect signal or a low refrigerant level in the system can cause the air conditioning compressor to deactivate. The LIN cable connecting the vehicle electrical system control module, J519, to sensor G395 is pinched or cut. This affects the A4/S4, A5/S5 Coupe and Cabriolet, and Audi Q5 vehicles. The A6 and A8 are not affected by this type of failure. The pressure sensor G395/G65 sends an incorrect signal that prevents bus silence and the battery is discharged. Sensor G395 is a LIN slave of the vehicle electrical system control module. The vehicle electrical system control module transfers the information provided by the sensor via the comfort data bus to the climate control module, J255. |
The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
