# Recalls that may apply to the 2009 Audi A4

A recall listed here may apply to a vehicle of this year, make and model. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle: check the VIN with the official lookups.

## United States (NHTSA), as of 2026-10-19

- [17V032000](/recalls/nhtsa/17V032000.md), 2017-01-11: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. \(Volkswagen\) is recalling certain 2009 Audi A4 Cabriolet, S4 Cabriolet, A6 Avant, A6 Sedan and S6 Sedan vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Additionally, unless included in "Zone B" above, Volkswagen is recalling certain 2005\-2008 Audi A4 Avant, A4 Sedan, A6 Sedan, S4 Avant and S4 Sedan vehicles, 2007\-2008 A4 Cabriolet, RS4 Sedan, S4 Cabriolet and S6 Sedan vehicles, and 2006\-2008 A6 Avant and 2008 RS4 Cabriolet vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long\-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
- [16V376000](/recalls/nhtsa/16V376000.md), 2016-05-27: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE\-INACTIVE; AIR BAGS. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. \(VW\) is recalling certain model year 2008\-2009 Audi A4, A5, and Q5 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the air bag control units may corrode and fail.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [2018342](/recalls/tc/2018342.md), 2018-06-22: Airbag. On certain vehicles, long\-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: This recall supersedes recalls 2016\-266 \(Audi Recall 69O2\), 2017\-026 \(Audi Recall 69P6\) and 2018\-022 \(Audi Recall 69U1\). Vehicles completed under the previous recalls require repair under this recall, as the previous recall remedy was an interim repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts. Additional Note: For the 2009 model year A4 and S4 models, only the Cabriolet versions are involved in this campaign.
- [2018059](/recalls/tc/2018059.md), 2018-01-30: Airbag. On certain vehicles, long\-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver frontal airbag. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: For the Audi A4, S4, A5 and S5 models, this campaign only affects the Cabriolet versions of these models. Also to Note: This recall supersedes the Audi brand vehicles subject to recall 2016\-064 \(Audi Recall 69N1\) and 2016\-065 \(69N2\). Audi brand vehicles completed under the previous 2016\-064 and 2016\-065 recalls require repair under this recall, as the previous recall remedy was an interim repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts.
- [2018022](/recalls/tc/2018022.md), 2018-01-10: Airbag. Additional Note: For the A4 and S4 models, only the Cabriolet versions are involved in this campaign. Additional Note: This recall is superseded by recall 2018342 \(Audi 69R7\). \<a href="http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf\-Sec\-Sur/7/VRDB\-BDRV/search\-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng\&\&rn=2018342"\>Click here for more information\</a\>.
- [2016246](/recalls/tc/2016246.md), 2016-05-24: Airbag. On certain vehicles, a power supply component within the airbag control unit may corrode and cause the unit to fail. If the airbag control unit were to fail, the airbag light would illuminate in the vehicle’s instrument panel, and safety systems such as seat belt pretensioners and airbags could be affected and may not deploy in the event of a crash \(where deployment is warranted\), which could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace the affected airbag control module.
- [2016065](/recalls/tc/2016065.md), 2016-02-09: Airbag. On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash \(where deployment is warranted\) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the front driver airbag inflator. Note: This only affects the Cabriolet versions of the Audi A4 and S4 models.
