- [89V006000](/recalls/nhtsa/89V006000.md), 1989-01-17: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. FUEL INJECTION SEALS MAY HARDEN, DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE AND ALCOHOL IN SOME FUELS, AND ALLOW FUEL TO ESCAPE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. Built 1983\-08\-01 to 1988\-11\-01.
- [87V170000](/recalls/nhtsa/87V170000.md), 1987-10-28: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL. MALFUNCTIONS OF INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF IDLE CONTROL UNIT COULD CAUSE IDLE STABILIZER VALVE TO BECOME ACTIVATED OUTSIDE ITS NORMAL OPERATING RANGE. Built 1983\-08\-01 to 1985\-06\-01.
- [87V157000](/recalls/nhtsa/87V157000.md), 1987-10-06: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY. REPEATED TOPPING OFF OF FUEL TANK DURING REFUELING REDUCES THE EXPANSION SPACE WITHIN THE TANK ALLOWING VAPORS TO ESCAPE FROM THE CHARCOAL FILTER TO OUTSIDE RATHER THAN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ENGINE. Built 1983\-08\-01 to 1987\-09\-01.
- [87V008000](/recalls/nhtsa/87V008000.md), 1987-01-03: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT. SUDDEN ACCELERATION FROM A STATIONARY POSITION MAY OCCUR, WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. Built 1977\-08\-01 to 1986\-07\-01.
- [85V099000](/recalls/nhtsa/85V099000.md), 1985-07-30: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS. UNDER ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS, OUTER RUBBER LAYER OF BRAKE HOSES MAY BECOME BRITTLE AND DEVELOP CRACKS. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: CRACKS COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID RESULTING IN AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND POSSIBLY AN ACCIDENT. Built 1983\-03\-01 to 1984\-05\-01.

## Canada (Transport Canada), as of 2026-10-19

- [1989007](/recalls/tc/1989007.md), 1989-01-16: Fuel System. On certain Audi 200 turbo and 5000 turbo, the fuel injector seals may harden due to high temperature and alcohol in fuel. This could allow fuel to escape and leak into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drop onto hot engine components and cause a fire. Correction: Fuel injector seals will be replaced with improved seals, fuel lines will be replaced with fire resistant fuel lines and the sound proofing pad will be replaced with an improved surface treated non\- flammable pad. Also, measures will be taken to better seal the engine against lubricant leakage.
- [1987118](/recalls/tc/1987118.md), 1987-11-04: Engine. On Audi 5000 and 5000 turbo with automatic transmissions, the idle control unit may experience isolated malfunctions of internal electronic components which could cause the idle stabilizer valve to become activated outside its normal operating range. This could cause the rpm to become erratic resulting in possible control problems. Correction: Idle control units will be replaced on all affected vehicles.
- [1987104](/recalls/tc/1987104.md), 1987-10-01: Fuel System. On certain Audi 5000 turbo and 5000 Quattro, repeated \`topping off' of the fuel tank after the gas station pump has stopped the fuel supply during refuelling, reduces the expansion space within the fuel tank. Consequent pressure conditions within the evaporative emission control system could result in fuel vapours being released into the engine compartment. Heat from the turbo exhaust system could ignite the vapours and cause an engine compartment fire with a risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. Correction: Vehicles will be fitted with a new vent valve and a new type charcoal filter vent hose. In addition, Quattro models will receive a redesigned fuel filler neck.
- [1987010](/recalls/tc/1987010.md), 1987-01-29: Engine. WHEN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM \`PARK' TO EITHER \`REVERSE' OR \`DRIVE', UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION MAY OCCUR WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: AN AUTOMATIC SHIFT LOCK WILL BE INSTALLED IN ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS WILL PREVENT SHIFTING FROM \`PARK' TO \`REVERSE' OR \`DRIVE' UNLESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED. V.I.N. RANGE WAU\*\*044\*E\*000001 TO WAU\*\*044\*G\*160000 NOTE: CHANGED FROM A SERVICE ACTION, SEPT.29,1986 TO A SAFETY RELATED RECALL
- [1985089](/recalls/tc/1985089.md), 1985-07-29: Brakes. On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses in VW vehicles and rear brake hoses in the Audi 5000 turbo, manufactured by F.A.G., may become brittle under winter conditions. Subsequent cracks may eventually lead to a loss of brake fluid resulting in increased stopping distance during a sudden brake application.
