Service bulletin 180100

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

BMW HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1997 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES WITH 1.9 LITER DISPLACEMENT ENGINES PRODUCED FROM 1/97 - 8/97 MAY EXHIBIT A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS MAY CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND DRIVABILITY COULD BECOME AFFECTED. BMW IS CONDUCTING A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TT
