Service bulletin 549

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

AMERICAN LAFRANCE EAGLE AND METROPOLITAN VEHICLES BUILT FROM APRIL 16, 1999, THROUGH AUGUST 15, 2000, HAVE AN ISOLATED ALLISON TRANSMISSION ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT). THE CIRCUIT E-144 WIRE IS GROUNDED AT THE LOW-OUTBOARD ECU MOUNTING STUD. THIS MAY CAUSE TRANSIENT VOLTAGE SIGNALS. THESE SINGALS COULD CAUSE THE UNNECESSARY STORAGE OF DIAGNOSTIC FAULT CODES OR ERRATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. *TT
