Dunlop Tires North America, Inc. (DTNA), a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd., issued Technical Service Bulletin DTNA-2026-01 on September 11, 2026 to its authorized distributors and dealers in the non-Harley-Davidson aftermarket channel regarding a cosmetic white sidewall discoloration condition on certain Dunlop D402 and AE2 whitewall motorcycle tires. The white sidewall band on affected tires may exhibit brown, tan, or blue-tinged discoloration due to chemical bleed-through from underlying rubber compounds, resulting from a manufacturing process variance. The condition is strictly cosmetic and does not affect tire performance, structural integrity, or safety; no ride disturbance, structural concern, or performance issue has been identified. Affected products: Dunlop D402 MT90B16 72H (Part No. 45006380), MT90B16 74H (Part No. 45006807), and MU85B16 77H (Part No. 45006074), and Dunlop AE2 MT90B16 72H (Part No. 45252459), DOT production date codes 0125 through 2826. The bulletin instructs distributors and dealers to stop selling and quarantine affected inventory to protect brand and consumer experience; to advise customers presenting an affected tire that the condition is cosmetic, the tire may continue to be used safely, and a solution is forthcoming; and to record customer contact information for follow-up on remediation once available. Affected tires do not need to be removed from service. This is a non-safety communication submitted pursuant to 49 CFR 579.5.
