# Service bulletin SSM 54544

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2025 Bronco/Ranger vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P04DB stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\) with no other relevant DTCs present. Refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 303\-08B Engine Emission Control \> Diagnosis and Testing \> Crankcase Ventilation \> Pinpoint Test \> steps HG1\-3 to check for leaks in the positive crankcase ventilation \(PCV\) and repair as needed. If no leaks are found in the PCV system, this condition may be due to the software in the PCM. This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis is required for this condition at this time. The replacement of components or reprogramming of modules will not resolve this condition. Clear the DTC and return the vehicle to the customer. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition that is expected in Q2 2026. If a vehicle comes in for this condition, submit a Global Concern Report \(GCR\) and monitor Professional Tech

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SSM 55228](/bulletins/11038440.md), 2026-10-12, Service bulletin: ENGINE; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Some 2020\-2026 Aviator/Explorer/F\-150/Bronco/Ranger vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L \(non\-diesel\) engine may need the front engine cover removed and reinstalled for various reasons. The Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 303\-01 Engine \> Removal and Installation \> Engine Front Cover service procedure has been updated to include a new essential special service tool \(ESST\) guide pin alignment tool \(303\-1790\) that is used to align the engine front cover to the engine block, preventing the O\-ring seal on the engine oil galley feed tube from getting damaged during installation.
- [TSB 26\-2372](/bulletins/11036309.md), 2026-08-21, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This bulletin supersedes 26\-2301. Reason for update: to update the Pinpoint Tests referenced in Step 1. Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may require the replacement of the ambient air temperature sensor for various concerns. DTCs P0071, P0072, and/or P0073 may be present in the powertrain control module \(PCM\).
- [SSM 55073](/bulletins/11036108.md), 2026-08-11, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Some 2021\-2026 Bronco vehicles may require the removal and installation of the transfer case for various reasons. Installation requires Loctite® 243 adhesive applied to the mounting bolt threads in the transmission. Make sure that the mating faces are clean and dry. Tightening the mounting bolts also requires an updated two\-stage tightening sequence. Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Sections 307\-07C/D and 308\-07C/D Installation \> Transfer Case have been updated to reflect this change.
- [SSM 55044](/bulletins/11035232.md), 2026-07-27, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2025\-2026 Bronco/Ranger vehicles may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction \(wrench\) indicator with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTC\) P2122, P2123, P2127, P2128, and/or P2138 stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). The vehicle may or may not exhibit a perceived lack of power intermittently. This may be due to an issue with the following connectors associated with the accelerator pedal position \(APP\) sensor circuits: \-C115B \-C175B \-C2040 Replacement of the accelerator pedal may not resolve this concern. Perform a wiggle test of the connectors while the engine is at normal operating temperature. Perform a visual inspection of the connectors as well as a terminal fit test using the appropriately sized flex probe. Repair as necessary. Refer to Wiring Diagram Cell 005. If no concerns are found, refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 310\-02 for normal diagnostics.
- [TSB 26\-2269](/bulletins/11034968.md), 2026-07-13, Service bulletin: ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\) P0300 and/or P0316 stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\) \(with no other relevant DTCs present\) during a cold start after a 3 to 8 hours cold soak. This may be due to the machining surface of the intake ports in the cylinder head.
- [TSB 26\-2301](/bulletins/11034223.md), 2026-07-01, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may require the replacement of the ambient air temperature sensor for various concerns. DTCs P0071, P0072, and/or P0073 may be present in the powertrain control module \(PCM\).
- [TSB 26\-2291](/bulletins/11034015.md), 2026-06-22, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; POWER TRAIN. This bulletin supersedes 26\-2006. Reason for update: update the Parts list to correct the ambient air temperature service part number. Some vehicles listed in the model statement above may require the replacement of the ambient air temperature sensor for various concerns. DTCs P0071, P0072, and/or P0073 may be present in the powertrain control module \(PCM\).
- [SSM 54902](/bulletins/11033775.md), 2026-06-09, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN. For 20202026 vehicles equipped with the 10R60 transmission, a new Transmission Clutch Circuit Leak Test has been introduced in the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System \(FDRS\). This test utilizes the pressure and vacuum transducer \(PVT\) when available. Workshop Manual \(WSM\) updates related to this diagnostic procedure are planned for release in Q4 2026. The new test improves the accuracy of detecting leaks within transmission fluid circuits and replaces the previous air check method. The previous air check procedure has been shown to produce a high rate of false positives, which may lead to unnecessary repairs when no actual leak is present. Accordingly, the air check procedure is not to be used for diagnosing internal transmission hydraulic leaks or as justification for transmission replacement.
- [26B08](/bulletins/11033578.md), 2026-06-05, Other: POWER TRAIN. Certain 2025 Bronco/Ranger and 2025\-2026 Explorer/Aviator 4\-wheel drive vehicles equipped with a 10R60 transmission. Transmission Replacement
- [26B04](/bulletins/11033576.md), 2026-06-05, Other: POWER TRAIN. Certain 2025 Model Year Bronco and Ranger Vehicles All Wheel Drive Module Replacement
