## NHTSA's summary

KTM North America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists with certain model motorcycles listed above. Engine vibrations may cause the side stand spring on forged side stands to break. A broken side stand spring may cause the side stand to deploy while the motorcycle is in motion, potentially turning off the ignition and increasing the risk of a crash. To remedy this defect, the side stand spring on all affected motorcycles must be replaced with a new side stand spring that has a rubber protector mounted. \(\#A60103224033 – Side stand spring with rubber protector\) In addition to replacing the side stand spring affected motorcycles must also have a new side stand sensor retaining plate \(\#A60103029100\) installed at the same time. The new side stand sensor retaining plate shifts the trigger range of the side stand switch. It is recommended that the side stand be secured for the journey to a dealer. This can be done, for example, with a heavy duty rubber strap or something similar.
