# Service bulletin MC360124

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

Carbon rim is leaking in the valve stem area. Due to breaking of the rim during mold separation andcracks in the clear coat. BMW Motorrad has extensively tested this complaint and have found that heavy, improper use cancreate leaks and cracks in general. For example, pressing/hitting the valve with the blade of the tirechanger machine. Microscope images of the test rims show identical failure as the rims that were returned requestedfor analysis. The resuLTs are that these rims were damaged by misuse not a defect in material and workmanship.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [MC340223](/bulletins/10242928.md), 2023-10-01, Service bulletin: WHEELS. Front and rear wheel speed sensor faults \(0x3A1800 and 0x3A1801\) appear after the bike is being revvedover 5000 RPM while still on the side stand, sometimes in conjunction with the side stand fault 0X3A1331. When the engine is revved up while on the side stand, vibrations are sent through the entire motorcycle. This vibration intensity varies from bike to bike. This vibration can cause particular movement between the wheel speed sensor and the sensor ringsdepending on the position of the sensor to the ring. The movement is picked up as rotation speed and iscalled âÂÂghost speedâÂÂ. This âÂÂghost speedâ follows the increase in RPMâ™s. 5000 RPM = approx. 12 MPH 10000 RPM = approx. 31 MPH
