# Service bulletin SSM 51906

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10243480
- Published by NHTSA: 2023\-10\-04
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 51906
- Manufacturer's date: 2023\-09\-07
- NHTSA component: TIRES; EQUIPMENT

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2023 Explorer/Aviator vehicles built on 15\-Mar\-2023 and through 01\-Sep\-2023 may exhibit a vehicle vibration felt at 35\-80 mph \(55 130 km/h\) in the steering wheel and/or seat. This may be due to tire flat spotting caused by vehicles being held at the Chicago Assembly Plant awaiting 360\-degree camera repairs. Tire flat spotting on these vehicles may be a temporary concern that is resolved after driving the vehicle a minimum of 200 miles \(320 km\) with no repair required. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 204\-4A if further diagnosis or repair is required after the vehicle has been driven this minimal distance.

- [SSM 52476](/bulletins/10254138.md), 2024-05-03, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT. All accessory stick\-on keyless entry keypads come with a wallet card containing the master code. If the accessory keypad was factory installed, this card will be placed in the glove box and should be handed to the vehicles owner during initial delivery. Unlike the integrated \(wired\) factory keypad, the accessory keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is lost, follow these steps to recover the code. Dealer Key Code access is granted through the Dealer Program Enrollment System \(DPES\); dealership management can authorize users. The authorized user must go to FMCDealer.com \> Parts and Service \> Parts Product Line Information \> Keys/Entry Devices \> Aftermarket Keyless Entry Keypad Code Access. Follow the instructions on the screen to obtain the master code for the accessory keypad.
- [SSM 52390](/bulletins/10252648.md), 2024-04-04, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA. Some 2023\-2024 Explorer vehicles built on or after 31\-Jul\-2023 \(minor feature code J3KAJ which can be confirmed by double\-clicking the VIN on PTS in the upper left corner\) are no longer equipped with the 360 degree view camera or reverse brake assist features. Vehicles affected are equipped with only rear functioning cameras. The vehicle is not misbuilt. Do not submit a claim for this condition. Affected vehicles of this change can be verified by entering a vehicle identification number \(VIN\) on Professional Technician System \(PTS\) to check for a 360\-degree camera credit on the window sticker. Diagnosis and repair for any parking aid concerns on these vehicles should follow Workshop Manual \(WSM\) Section 413\-13B for Rear Parking Aid Camera System only. Do not use the 360 degree view camera or reverse brake assist diagnostics or repair procedures.
- [SSM 52373](/bulletins/10252636.md), 2024-04-04, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM. Some 2020\-2024 Aviator vehicles equipped with auto air refresh option \(minor feature code G1DAG\) may exhibit a buzzing/clicking/humming/ticking sound from the OHC and/or diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P24AE in the heating ventilation and air conditioning \(HVAC\) module. To confirm if a vehicle is built with a certain minor feature code, review the build information by double\-clicking the vehicle identification number \(VIN\) in the upper left corner in the Professional Technician System \(PTS\). If diagnostics lead to the in\-vehicle temperature and humidity sensor as the causal part, a new lower level part is available. It is not necessary to replace the OHC assembly if only the sensor is suspect. Use part number L1MZ\-19F666\-A to resolve the concern.
- [SSM 52351](/bulletins/10252623.md), 2024-04-04, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM. Certain 2023\-2024 Explorer vehicle trim levels built on or after 6\-Feb\-2023 are no longer equipped with the rear heating ventilation and air conditioning \(HVAC\) control panel on the rear of the center console. The following Explorer trim levels no longer include the rear HVAC control panel: Base, XLT 200A, XLT 202A without the Sport Appearance Package \(sales code: 68M\). Customers can adjust the rear climate control system via the front HVAC control panel. Installation of a rear HVAC control panel is not warrantable.

Some 2020\-2024 Explorer/Aviator vehicles may exhibit a lack of audio and/or a water leak in the rear liftgate area and/or water in the spare tire area. The customer may indicate that this concern is more noticeable after a car wash or rainfall. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to identify the leak path.
- [TSB 24\-2043](/bulletins/10251467.md), 2024-03-07, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. It is no longer necessary to replace the entire loadspace trim panel.
