# Service bulletin B160423

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

BMW AG has issued a Delivery Stop \(effective July 12, 2023\) on certain Model Year 2023 \- 2024 BMW vehicles that were produced between July 21, 2022, and July 11, 2023. A software logic error in the diagnostic module for tank leaks \(DMTL\) could cause the Service Engine Soon light \(MIL\) to not turn on when there is an electrical fault with pump or diverter valve for the DMTL even after several driving cycles with the fault/s being currently present.

- [B120626](/bulletins/11034450.md), 2026-07-03, Service campaign: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In these vehicles with an S68 engine, an incorrect diagnosis of the Valvetronic \(VVT\) may occur. Undercertain operating conditions, the software may detect a short\-circuit in the valve control system even thoughthere is no fault. When the above\-mentioned fault occurs, the red Check Control warning light ‘Drive system fault’ illuminates. This can result in the intake valves closing gradually, which may lead to misfires while the engine is running.
- [B652724](/bulletins/11033033.md), 2026-06-01, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. A check control message \(CCM\) for the restraint system \(Air bag\) appears. In the instrument cluster, the redair bag warning light lights up permanently. One of the following fault codes is stored in the ACSM \(air bag control unit\): 930949 \- Knee airbag, driver: Short circuit to negative terminal 93094F \- Knee airbag, front passenger: Short circuit to negative terminal 93094C \- Knee airbag driver's side: Resistance too great 930952 \- Knee airbag, front passenger: Resistance too great
- [B652025](/bulletins/11032744.md), 2026-05-18, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. After replacing the Multifunctional Display \(MFD\), the Central Information Display \(CID\) is black. The backlight of the CID is illuminated, and touch function does register an audible sound.
- [B120326](/bulletins/11030061.md), 2026-03-13, Emissions: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. BMW AG is conducting Voluntary Emissions Recall \(effective March 11, 2026\) on certain Model Year 2023 \-2026 BMW vehicles that were produced between January 14, 2022, and September 16, 2025.

In the instrument cluster, the redair bag warning light lights up permanently. One of the following fault codes is stored in the ACSM \(air bag control unit\): 930949 \- Knee airbag, driver: Short circuit to negative terminal 93094F \- Knee airbag, front passenger: Short circuit to negative terminal 93094C \- Knee airbag driver's side: Resistance too great 930952 \- Knee airbag, front passenger: Resistance too great
- [B611925](/bulletins/11024713.md), 2025-11-03, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. RSU availability. The malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) is triggered by the erroneous fault code 031BFC\- AC charging, charging electronics 2, internal fault: No internal capacitor discharge stored in the CCU. However, AC charging is operating as designed without a charging concern or issue. Affected PHEV vehicles have the CCU\-03 \(7.4 kW / 11 kW\) with I\-levels from 24\-07\-500 to 25\-11\-5xx
- [B840625](/bulletins/11024211.md), 2025-10-09, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In some situations, an emergency call may be triggered in the vehicle without either the customer pressing the SOS Call button, or an airbag deployment event. In some cases, the customer may not even be inside the vehicle.
