# Service bulletin 08\-004\-23

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10238667
- Published by NHTSA: 2023\-07\-05
- Manufacturer's number: 08\-004\-23
- Manufacturer's date: 2023\-06\-14
- NHTSA component: AIR BAGS; STEERING

## NHTSA's summary

Some vehicles with the two\-step deployment control air bag module may exhibit a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. This is caused by the horn spring \(1\) of the airbag module interfering with the black color tape \(2\) of the clock spring harness \(3\), resulting in a stick\-slip noise \(click on attached sound file below\).

- [06\-001\-26](/bulletins/11035595.md), 2026-08-04, Service bulletin: STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DESCRIPTION Some customers may complain that the electric power steering warning light illuminates after engine start and DTC U2011:1C is stored. Zinc\-plated whisker may form inside the EPS motor and trigger the DTC. However, since it is cleared when power is supplied during DTC detection, normal operation can be restored by turning the ignition OFF and then ON. Furthermore, there is no possibility of recurrence. This case may be resolved through a simple inspection or repair without the need for parts replacement, potentially avoiding unnecessary customer waiting time.
- [SA\-051\-25](/bulletins/11026350.md), 2025-12-05, Service bulletin: STEERING; SUSPENSION; POWER TRAIN; WHEELS. Noise, Vibration, and Harshness \(NVH\) Diagnostic Guidelines Diagnostic Guidelines When diagnosing NVH concerns, it is essential to first classify the issue into one of three primary categories: Noise, Vibration, or Harshness. Many customer complaints may involve overlapping symptoms, such as both noise and vibration, so identifying the dominant characteristic is critical. Once the primary symptom is determined, follow the appropriate diagnostic path. For example, if a concern includes both noise and vibration but is related to vehicle speed, the vibration diagnostic path should be followed. When considering component replacement during the diagnostic process, it is best practice to start with the lowest cost or most accessible part unless diagnostic evidence clearly identifies a more expensive or complex component as the root cause. This approach helps minimize repair costs and avoids unnecessary part replacements. For example, a growling or bearing whine noise may be mistakenly attributed to internal components in the differential, transfer unit, or transmission, when the actual source is a wheel bearing. Misdiagnosis like this can lead to unnecessary repairs, added time and cost. To help prevent this, always follow the guidelines in the repair procedure.
- [06\-001\-25](/bulletins/11013654.md), 2025-02-05, Service bulletin: STEERING. Some vehicles may exhibit wear/peel\-off of the leather steering wheel surface causing a poor appearance. This concern may be caused by an insufficient wear resistance of the steering wheel surface.
- [SA\-026\-24b](/bulletins/11011139.md), 2024-12-04, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. A customer may complain of a rattle noise from the right side of the dash. The noise may be coming from the passenger side airbag.
- [SA\-026\-24](/bulletins/10254098.md), 2024-05-03, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. A customer may complain of a rattle noise from the right side of the dash. The noise may be coming from the passenger side airbag.
- [SA\-011\-24](/bulletins/10251387.md), 2024-03-06, Service bulletin: STEERING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; WHEELS; TIRES; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle\-specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers.
- [08\-003\-23a](/bulletins/10240372.md), 2023-08-03, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. Some vehicles may exhibit that the air bag warning light turns on or repeats cycles of turning on and off with DTC B1126:13 and/or B1127:13 stored in memory. B1126:13 \- Driver\-side side air bag module circuit open circuit or resistance high B1127:13 \- Passenger\-side side air bag module circuit open circuit or resistance high This issue is caused by any of the following: When the driver or passenger moves, a load is applied to the seat back and the load may cause displacement of the mating terminals in the side air bag module connector, resulting in insufficient contact and higher resistance. The DTC detection level is too sensitive. The form of the female terminals in the side air bag module connector may cause insufficient contact and higher resistance. To eliminate these concerns, \(1\) the DTC detection level of the SAS control module has been optimized, \(2\) the design of the side air bag module connector has been modified, and \(3\) the layout of the side air bag module connector has been modified.
- [08\-003\-23](/bulletins/10237201.md), 2023-06-04, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. Some vehicles may exhibit that the air bag warning light turns on or repeats cycles of turning on and off with DTC B1126:13 and/or B1127:13 stored in memory.
- [06\-001\-23a](/bulletins/10235414.md), 2023-05-03, Service bulletin: STEERING. Some vehicles may exhibit wear/peel\-off of the leather steering wheel surface causing a poor appearance. This concern may be caused by an insufficient wear resistance of the steering wheel surface.
- [eFC\-1\-21\-00443a](/bulletins/10233663.md), 2023-04-04, Service bulletin: AIR BAGS. A Technical Service Bulletin \(TSB 08\-001 /22 \- AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON WITH OTC B1126: 13 OR B1127:13\) has been released to repair 2019\-2022 Mazda3 with OTC B1126:13/B1127:13. Follow the TSB to repair the vehicle before replacing the airbag module. MC is working on a separate TSB for 2020\-2022 CX\-30.
