# Service bulletin SSM 51108

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10222256
- Published by NHTSA: 2022\-10\-03
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 51108
- Manufacturer's date: 2022\-09\-28
- NHTSA component: VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2022 F\-Super Duty vehicles equipped with SYNC4 and a 12.3 inch center display screen may exhibit a condition where the air conditioning \(A/C\) compressor will not engage while attempting to defog the windows, ambient air temperatures are between 60°F \(15°C\) and 72°F \(22°C\), and humidity is high. This may be due to the software in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning \(HVAC\) control module. To correct the condition, reprogram the HVAC module using the latest software version of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System \(FDRS\) diagnostic scan tool. For claiming, use causal part 18C612 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SYNC\-25.2.0.16.1 SD](/bulletins/11029356.md), 2026-03-03, Over\-the\-air update: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; VISIBILITY/WIPER; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. "Quality Improvements Include: \- Bug Fixing and Feature improvements. \- Resolves black screen issue caused when there is no SiriusXM disk space."
- [SYNC\-25.1.7.10.1 SuperDut](/bulletins/11028994.md), 2026-02-24, Over\-the\-air update: VISIBILITY/WIPER; UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. 25S49 Recall Remedy: \-Infotainment software update to address frozen screens
- [SSM 54137](/bulletins/11021975.md), 2025-08-19, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; VISIBILITY/WIPER. Various 2021\-2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with the rear camera on demand feature may exhibit "Please Check Surroundings For Safety" or "Full View Not Available" messages when the rear camera button is pressed and the vehicle is not in reverse. Inform customers this condition is considered normal operation and does not affect vehicle durability because the full rear view camera image can only be shown when the vehicle is in reverse. No additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition.
- [SSM 51829](/bulletins/10240719.md), 2023-08-14, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES. Some F\-Super Duty and F\-150 vehicles equipped with trailer tow mirror may exhibit various exterior rear view mirror functional concerns that require replacement after diagnosis. To properly determine if the defect is warrantable, cleaning and close inspection of the affected mirror may be required. To aid in proper warranty determination, the Rear\-View Mirror Analysis general service bulletin \(GSB\) has been updated with a detailed cleaning procedure that should be followed prior to any inspection. New labor operations \(17682ZZ or 17682ZZT\) have been created that covers the cleaning and inspection process and may be used even if condition of failure is non\-warrantable. Ford has inspected numerous returned parts and determined many cases are caused by damage which is unwarrantable and may be subject to chargeback. Refer to the latest version of the GSB on OASIS.
- [SSM 51265](/bulletins/10228881.md), 2023-01-06, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles equipped with power folding mirrors may exhibit power folding mirrors that are inoperative or exhibit a clicking sound. This may be due to the mirrors being manually folded in, during transportation, going through a car wash, bumped in a parking lot, or found during pre\-delivery inspection \(PDI\). Prior to the replacement of any components, attempt to synchronize the mirrors by following the Power Mirrors Synchronization procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\) Section 501\-09 Rear View Mirrors \- General Procedures \- Power Mirrors Synchronization.
- [TSB 22\-2349](/bulletins/10220381.md), 2022-09-23, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY; STRUCTURE. This article supersedes TSB 22\-2095 to update the vehicles affected. Some 2021\-2022 F\-150 and F\-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a B and O audio system may exhibit the rear window glass sliding panel rattling when in the open position and music is playing. This may be due to a low amount of seal extrusion pressure provided by the rear window glass sliding rail and/or the rear window glass sliding panel defroster wire harness vibrating between the two panels of glass. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to install the rear window glass sliding panel service kit.
- [SSM 50937](/bulletins/10216060.md), 2022-07-20, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER; VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM. Some 2015\-2022 F\-150, 2017\-2022 F\-Super Duty and 2018\-2022 Expedition/Navigator vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning \(A/C\) performance. Workshop Manual \(WSM\) diagnostic procedures have been updated to more accurately diagnose A/C performance concerns. Refer to the updated Diagnosis and Testing, and General Procedure in the WSM, Section 412\-00 Climate Control System for diagnostic procedures
