Service bulletin SSM 50977
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary
Some 2021-2022 F-Super Duty and 2021-2023 E-Series vehicles equipped with a 6.2L or 7.3L gasoline engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0457 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to a loose fuel filler cap. The fuel filler cap design has changed, requiring multiple turns to seal properly. Advise the customer to turn the fuel filler cap clockwise until there is at least one audible click to seal properly. For further diagnostics, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-13 - pinpoint test HX.

| SSM 52389 | 2024-04-04. Service bulletin. Some 2022-2024 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with only diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U3012 stored in the PCM. If no drivability concerns or other DTCs are present, perform normal diagnostics per the Workshop Manual (WSM). If diagnostics lead to the powertrain control module (PCM) or body control module (BCM), the replacement of the PCM and/or the BCM will not resolve this concern. This illuminated MIL with DTC U3012 does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition. Monitor OASIS for additional information and schedule service appointments for customers once the repair becomes available. |

| TSB 23-2376 | 2024-01-05. Service bulletin. Some 2022 F-550 and F-600 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 10R140 automatic transmission and 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P2704 and P0771 stored in the transmission control module (TCM) with poor shift quality and over 5,000 miles (8,000 km) in service. This may be due to wear between the input shaft and the E clutch hub causing the input shaft O-rings to become damaged resulting in an open E clutch circuit. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the E clutch hub and input shaft O-rings. |
| TSB 23-2077 | 2023-04-04. Service bulletin. Some 2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U3012 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the software in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM and transmission control module (TCM). |
| TSB 22-2450 | 2022-12-02. Service bulletin. Some 2022 F-Super Duty vehicles built on or before 31-Jul-2022 equipped with a 10R140 automatic transmission may exhibit a fluid leak from the selector shaft seal. This may be caused by a crack in the manual shaft. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the manual shaft, the manual shaft-to-sensor roll pin and the selector shaft seal. |
| SSM 50712 | 2022-05-03. Service bulletin. Some 2022 F-Super Duty four-wheel drive (4WD) pickup vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit a momentary, slight grinding type noise prior to the 4-3 downshift while coasting without the brakes applied. This condition does not affect vehicle durability. Replacement of the transmission or other components will not resolve this condition and engineering is currently working on a solution which is expected to be available by June 2022. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment for June 2022. Monitor OASIS for updates and confirm that the service appointment is going forward once the repair becomes available. |
| SSM 50636 | 2022-03-29. Service bulletin. 2011-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2023 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages. |
| SSM 50564 | 2022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), lack of power, and/or excessive turbo noise during operation, with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P003A, P0045, P0046, P0047, P0048, P0234, P0237, P0238, P132A, P2564, P2565, P2598, P259E, and/or P259F stored in the powertrain control module. If Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics lead to turbocharger variable vane actuator replacement, service part LC3Z-9G488-A has been released for service. Replacement of the turbocharger assembly is no longer required. |
| SSM 50549 | 2022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2018-2020 F-150, 2017-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2022 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may exhibit diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0000 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) after an on-demand self test. This DTC is due to a processing error in the PCM as a result of on-demand self testing. P0000 is an invalid DTC that will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and no repairs should be performed. |
| SSM 50417 | 2022-02-04. Service bulletin. Some 2022 F-250 Super Duty 4x4 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine, 10R140 transmission, and 160 inch wheelbase may exhibit a momentary, slight grinding-type noise immediately following a 4-3 downshift while coasting without the brakes applied. This condition does not affect vehicle durability. Replacement of the transmission or other components will not resolve this condition and engineering is currently working on a solution which is expected to be available by July 2022. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment for July 2022. Monitor OASIS for updates and confirm that the service appointment is going forward once the repair becomes available. |
| SSM 50261 | 2021-12-07. Service bulletin. Some 2021-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit harsh or delayed engagement/shift concerns. Most concerns may be addressed with the PCM/TCM Transmission Accelerated Main Control Break In Routine. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01, DTC Chart and/or Diagnosis By Symptom to identify the clutch(s) to be cycled. This routine cycles the shift solenoids and clutch control valves to remove contamination that may be sticking the valves and must be performed along with an adaptive learning drive cycle before attempting internal service. Although this routine was originally developed for low mileage vehicles, it has proven effective for resolving many shift and engagement symptoms across the life of the vehicle. For claiming, use causal part 7A100 and applicable labor operations in Section 7 of the Service Labor Time Standards Manual. |
