# Service bulletin PS731

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10212199
- Published by NHTSA: 2022\-06\-03
- Manufacturer's number: PS731
- Manufacturer's date: 2022\-05\-25
- NHTSA component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

## NHTSA's summary

PITSTOP: DTC P0011/ P0014/ P0016/ P0017 DUE TO INCORRECT CAMSHAFT RELUCTOR WHEEL CONFIGURATION \- This Pitstop provides information on some 2010\-2013MY Soul \(AM\), 2014\-2019MY Soul \(PS\), and 2020\~MY Soul \(SK3\) vehicles equipped with the engines listed below, which may set DTC P0011, P0014, P0016, or P0017 after an engine replacement. If these DTCs were not present prior to engine replacement, the camshaft reluctor wheel \(also called pulse wheel\) may not be in the correct position when engine is at Top Dead Center and may be sending an erroneous signal to the PCM, causing the DTC. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication, with engine set to Top Dead Center \(TDC\), to inspect and identify whether the reluctor wheel is correctly clocked on the camshaft, and if not, how to correctly position it.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [TSB\_ENG263](/bulletins/11036452.md), 2026-08-28, Service bulletin: ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: MISFIRE CONCERN DUE TO OVERRUNNING ALTERNATOR DECOUPLER \- This bulletin provides information to address unresolved misfire events on some 2020–2024MY Forte \(BDm\) produced from January 1, 2019 through September 30, 2024, and 2020–2022MY Soul \(SK3\) vehicles produced from November 1, 2018 through May 31, 2022 equipped with a Gamma 1.6L T‑GDI engine. In certain cases, misfire symptoms may persist after completing normal diagnostic procedures and replacing ignition‑related components \(spark plugs, ignition coils, and fuel injectors\). If misfire concerns remain after these repairs are performed, excessive torsional oscillation of the Overrunning Alternator Decoupler \(OAD\) pulley may be the contributing factor. This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the OAD pulley with the updated Overrunning Alternator Pulley \(OAP\) kit and associated damper components.
- [PI2107\_OWNR\_501](/bulletins/11031846.md), 2026-05-01, Other: ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN: OWNER RENOTIFICATION \(PI2107 Flight 501\) \- This document is the owner renotification advising that Kia is conducting an important Product Improvement Campaign to perform a software update on 2017\-2019 MY Kia Soul vehicles equipped with 2.0\-liter Nu GDI engines to protect the engine from excessive connecting rod bearing damage. The update will be done free of charge and will only involve the addition of newly developed computer software for the Engine Control Unit \(“ECU”\).
- [SC176Y\_TSB\_R1](/bulletins/11030346.md), 2026-03-31, Service bulletin: ENGINE. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: SUBSEQUENT REPAIR ACTION: CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT AND ENGINE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT \(SC176Y\) \- This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area. This bulletin provides catalytic converter and engine sub\-assembly diagnosis and repair information on certain 2012\-2016MY Soul \(AM, PS\) vehicles produced from July 8, 2011 through August 11, 2016, that previously had the recall campaign SC176 completed. The affected vehicles may exhibit catalyst system efficiency deterioration or a malfunction indicator lamp illumination with an active, history or pending P0420 with or without a P030X misfire DTC.
- [PI2002B\_OWNR\_701](/bulletins/11029041.md), 2026-02-26, Other: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN: OWNER RENOTIFICATION \(PI2002B FL701\) \- This document is the owner renotification advising that Kia is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign to perform a software update on 2014\-2016 MY Soul vehicles equipped with 2.0L Gasoline Direct Injection \(“GDI”\) engines to protect the engine from excessive connecting rod bearing damage. The update will be done free of charge and will only involve the addition of this computer software for the Engine Control Unit \(“ECU”\).
- [SST082\_R1](/bulletins/11022844.md), 2025-09-05, Service bulletin: ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This bulletin provides instructions to perform an engine vibration inspection using the Kia Diagnostic System \(KDS\) tablet on certain Kia engine/model vehicles. The piston oil ring\(s\) in certain Kia engines may, over time, damage the surface of the engine cylinder wall. This may lead to increased oil consumption which will eventually result in abnormal noise from the engine and/or illumination of the oil pressure warning light. The applicable vehicle may or may not have the Piston Noise Sensing System \(PNSS\) software installed at the time of an engine vibration inspection. The PNSS software may detect engine noise triggering a DTC P132700.
- [SC336YZ\_TSB](/bulletins/11022843.md), 2025-09-05, Service bulletin: ENGINE. This bulletin provides information related to the Technical Service Bulletin previously published under SC336 titled “Engine Inspection/Replacement and ECM Logic Improvement”.
