# Service bulletin SSM 50672

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2018\-2022 Mustang vehicles \(Non\-Shelby\) and built at Flat Rock Assembly may experience a clunk/pop type noise when turning the steering wheel. This may be due to an incorrectly installed upper spring seat which is part of the front strut assembly. To correct this condition, remove the suspect strut\(s\) from the vehicle and inspect the upper spring seat for damage and/or incorrect installation and repair as necessary. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 204\-01. For claiming, use casual part 18124 and the applicable labor operations of Section 03 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.

- [SB23\-01](/bulletins/10240305.md), 2023-08-03, Service bulletin: SUSPENSION; STEERING; EQUIPMENT. Spl Parts, Inc. communications index accompanying MCP uploads 23mc40464 \& 23mc40471
- [SB 23\-01](/bulletins/10240266.md), 2023-08-02, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; SUSPENSION; STEERING. SPL Parts, Inc. manufacturers and distributes aftermarket lower control arms for dedicated competition vehicles and "track day" cars some of which may be used on both track and highway. SB 23\-01 adresses proper installation torque of cap bolt fasteners attaching SPL's aftermarket lower control arms, recurring inspection and confirmation of torque setting and removal and replacement of damaged or under torqued fasteners to reduce risk of premature failure and accident. SB\-23\-01 was mailed, emailed and posted on SPL website to known resellers, race teams and users of the affected parts and is being submitted here as required by part 579.5. Vehicle Applications include: BMW series 1,2,3,\& 4, 2008\-2023; Chevrolet Camaro 26\-2023, Cadillac ATS, CTS 2016\-2019; Ford Mustang 2015\-2023; Toyota Supra 2020\-2023.
- [SSM 51742](/bulletins/10238278.md), 2023-06-28, Service bulletin: SUSPENSION. Some 2020\-2023 Mustang \(non\-GT500/GT350\) vehicles equipped with vehicle dynamic suspension may exhibit a Dynamic Suspension Fault message displayed in the IPC with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) B14C1:64 with no vehicle symptoms. This may be due to software within the vehicle dynamics module \(VDM\). To correct the condition, reprogram the VDM using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool.
- [SSM 51312](/bulletins/10230933.md), 2023-02-02, Service bulletin: STEERING. During replacement of the electronic power assist system \(EPAS\) steering gear assembly on 2015\-2023 Mustang vehicles, removal and replacement of the inner tie rods and bellows boots is required. To assist engineering with root cause analysis of failed steering gears, include these parts in the same package when returning warranty replacement steering gears. Make sure to avoid damage to the bellows boots or inner tie rods during removal. The steering gear should also be packaged in the original box with all protective insulators in place to properly protect it during shipping.
- [SSM 48388](/bulletins/10169935.md), 2020-01-08, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING. Some 2020 Mustang vehicles built on or before 04\-Sep\-2019 may exhibit a U3000:62 DTC set in the PSCM. This may be accompanied by a slightly different steering feel, which will return to normal after one key cycle. To correct this condition, update the PSCM using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. For claiming use causal part 3504 and applicable labor times in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.
- [SSM 47489](/bulletins/10144947.md), 2018-09-24, Service bulletin: STEERING. When connecting the Vehicle Communication Module \(VCM\) and Integrated Diagnostic System \(IDS\) or Ford Diagnosis and Repair System \(FDRS\) to the DLC located on the driver side under the steering column at the GWM, make sure that the ignition is off before connecting the VCM. If the ignition is on or the engine is running during the connection, it can result in various warning lights being illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\), no start, no crank conditions or the IPC inoperative. If a vehicle displays these issues, disconnect the equipment from the DLC and disconnect the vehicle battery. Wait 10 minutes and reinstall with the ignition off. Clear any DTCs present and retest.
- [SSM 46997](/bulletins/10140312.md), 2018-06-11, Service bulletin: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM; STEERING. Some 2018 Mustang vehicles may exhibit a customer complaint of lack of on center feel or overall power steering feel performance. A new power steering control module \(PSCM\) calibration has been released. Reprogram the PSCM to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System \(IDS\) release 108.02 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com. For claiming, use causal part 3504 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the service labor time standards \(SLTS\) manual.
