# Service bulletin SSM 50597

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10209216
- Published by NHTSA: 2022\-03\-22
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 50597
- Manufacturer's date: 2022\-03\-16
- NHTSA component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2019\-2021 Ranger vehicles built on or before 09\-Aug\-2021 and 2021 Bronco vehicles equipped with a 2.3L engine may experience reduced engine power in freezing temperatures with an illuminated malfunction indication lamp \(MIL\) and/or powertrain malfunction indicator \(wrench\) lamp with diagnostic trouble codes \(DTC\) P2111, P2112, and/or P2119. This may be due to water or ice buildup in the intake manifold behind the throttle body. If suspected, remove the throttle body and inspect for water or ice in the base of the intake manifold. If water or ice is found, replace the intake manifold with part number KB3Z\-9424\-B and crankcase vent oil separator hose, part number LB5Z\-6A664\-D. Refer to Workshop Manual Sections 303\-01 and 303\-08. For claiming, use causal part number 9424 and applicable labor times from Section 09 of the Service Labor Times Standard \(SLTS\) Manual.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SSM 55240](/bulletins/11038445.md), 2026-10-13, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; UNKNOWN OR OTHER; SERVICE BRAKES. Some 2021\-2024 Bronco vehicles may exhibit an illuminated red brake warning indicator with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) C0049:01 stored in the anti\-lock brake system \(ABS\) module. This may be due to pin fitment at the brake fluid level sensor connector. To resolve this concern, replace the brake fluid reservoir and replace the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector C1052 with service pigtail wiring kit 3U2Z\-14S411\-BXAB. For claiming, use causal part 2L210 and labor operations 2140A and 2219D45WR.
- [SSM 55228](/bulletins/11038440.md), 2026-10-12, Service bulletin: ENGINE; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Some 2020\-2026 Aviator/Explorer/F\-150/Bronco/Ranger vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L \(non\-diesel\) engine may need the front engine cover removed and reinstalled for various reasons. The Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 303\-01 Engine \> Removal and Installation \> Engine Front Cover service procedure has been updated to include a new essential special service tool \(ESST\) guide pin alignment tool \(303\-1790\) that is used to align the engine front cover to the engine block, preventing the O\-ring seal on the engine oil galley feed tube from getting damaged during installation.
- [TSB 26\-2380](/bulletins/11037537.md), 2026-09-29, Service bulletin: SUSPENSION; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STRUCTURE:BODY; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. This article supersedes TSB 25\-2575 to update the Parts list to add the applicable body wiring harnesses and underbody shield bolts. Some vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit a "Sta\-bar Disconnect Service Required" message in the instrument panel cluster \(IPC\) with any of the following diagnostic trouble codes \(DTCs\) stored in the chassis control module \(CHCM\): C103A, C1A99, C1B03, C1B07, C1B14 and/or B1A67. This may be due to water intrusion in the stabilizer bar wiring harness connector.

- [TSB 26\-2359](/bulletins/11036074.md), 2026-08-10, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; UNKNOWN OR OTHER; POWER TRAIN. Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit an incorrectly illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P0420 stored in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). This may be due to the software in the PCM.
- [26E04](/bulletins/11035465.md), 2026-08-03, Emissions: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. - [SSM 55031](/bulletins/11035269.md), 2026-07-28, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021\-2026 Ford/Lincoln vehicles may exhibit various symptoms including but not limited to the auto start/stop system not operating as intended with a "Check Charging System" message in the instrument panel cluster \(IPC\) while the charging system is operating properly with no charging related diagnostic trouble codes \(DTC\) stored. This may be due to someone using an aftermarket programmer to change the body control module \(BCM\) configuration to disable the auto start/stop system or perform other unsupported programming modifications. To correct this condition on F\-150 and Bronco vehicles, download and run the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System \(FDRS\) application titled "BCM\-Charging System Configuration Correction". Running this application will determine if the BCM configuration was modified by the customer and if so, provide the option to return the configuration back to factory settings. For other vehicle models exhibiting concerns related to unsupported aftermarket BCM programming, submit a Technical Support Request \(TSR\) requesting support to revert the BCM configuration
