# Service bulletin SSM 50578

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10209027
- Published by NHTSA: 2022\-03\-15
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 50578
- Manufacturer's date: 2022\-03\-11
- NHTSA component: EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2020\-2021 Mustang GT500 vehicles may exhibit a lack of power and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P1228. This may be due to the one\-way clutch on the supercharger drive assembly. With the supercharger belt removed, a failed one\-way clutch within the pulley rotates freely in both directions. The supercharger drive assembly KR3Z\-6J022\-B is now available as a lower level service part, separate from the supercharger assembly. Refer to the parts catalog and Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 303\-12D for installation.

- [SSM 53973](/bulletins/11020044.md), 2025-07-02, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN; ENGINE. Some 2021\-2024 Edge/Nautilus, 2021\-2025 Bronco/Bronco Sport/E\-Series/Escape/Corsair/Expedition/Navigator/Explorer/Aviator/F\-150/F\-Super Duty/Mustang/Ranger, and 2022\-2025 Maverick vehicles may require an A/C compressor clutch assembly replacement be performed for various concerns. Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 412\-00 Removal and Installation has been updated to eliminate the need to remove and install the A/C compressor to change out the A/C Compressor clutch assembly.
- [SSM 52542](/bulletins/11000294.md), 2024-05-23, Service bulletin: ENGINE. Some 2020\-2022 Mustang GT500 vehicles may exhibit a lack of power and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P1228. - [SSM 52476](/bulletins/10254138.md), 2024-05-03, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT. All accessory stick\-on keyless entry keypads come with a wallet card containing the master code. If the accessory keypad was factory installed, this card will be placed in the glove box and should be handed to the vehicles owner during initial delivery. Unlike the integrated \(wired\) factory keypad, the accessory keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is lost, follow these steps to recover the code. Dealer Key Code access is granted through the Dealer Program Enrollment System \(DPES\); dealership management can authorize users. The authorized user must go to FMCDealer.com \> Parts and Service \> Parts Product Line Information \> Keys/Entry Devices \> Aftermarket Keyless Entry Keypad Code Access. Follow the instructions on the screen to obtain the master code for the accessory keypad.
- [SSM 52335](/bulletins/10251952.md), 2024-03-20, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. For 2015\-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 303\-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.
- [SSM 52334](/bulletins/10251951.md), 2024-03-20, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011\-2024 Mustang and F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a tick tap and/or typewriter ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150°F \(65°C\) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPM. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise tick rate can be faster or slower and is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted. This information along with an example audio clip has been added to the WSM Section 303\-00 Engine System General Information \> Diagnosis and Testing \> Engine \> PPT F \> Step F2.
- [TSB 23\-2433](/bulletins/10248371.md), 2024-01-05, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT. Some 2015\-2020 Mustang vehicles built on or before 30\-Aug\-2020 may exhibit a rattle like noise coming from the front seat. This may be due to the mating surface between the seat frame and floor pans. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to clean the mating surface.
- [TSB 23\-2334](/bulletins/10244797.md), 2023-11-03, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR. This article supersedes TSB 21\-2220 to update the model years affected and part list. Some 2018\-2024 Mustang coupe vehicles may exhibit a sagging headliner or gap where the headliner meets the upper door weatherstrip. This may be due to an outward bent door frame moulding not allowing the weatherstrip to overlap the headliner properly. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the door frame moulding.
- [TSB 23\-2307](/bulletins/10244707.md), 2023-11-02, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM\(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM\); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT:SOFTWARE. Some 2019\-2020 Edge/F\-150/Fusion/Continental/MKZ/Nautilus, 2019\-2021 Mustang/Ranger/Transit Connect, 2020\-2021 EcoSport/Escape/Expedition/Explorer/F\-Super Duty/Aviator/Corsair/Navigator, 2021 Bronco Sport and 2020\-2022 Explorer/Aviator vehicles with SYNC 3 may experience various SYNC performance related concerns. This may be due to the SYNC Software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the SYNC module \(APIM\) software.
- [SSM 51947](/bulletins/10243652.md), 2023-10-06, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2015\-2019 F\-Super Duty and 2015\-2020 F\-150/Mustang vehicles may require replacement of the powertrain control module \(PCM\) for various reasons. While performing a programmable module installation \(PMI\) using the Integrated Diagnostic Service \(IDS\) scan tool, an error message may state: Configuration Failed, Would You Like To Retry? This may be due to improper module replacement steps. Make sure that the original module is installed in the vehicle, delete the vehicle session, then start a new vehicle session. Once the session starts, run the PCM PMI and install the new PCM only when the scan tool instructs. Finish the PMI by following the prompts given by IDS. If the original PCM is not available, it is possible to configure the module by running as\-built programming on the PCM. When IDS asks to obtain part numbers or configuration data, select configuration data.
