These new systems use the mass of the DAB as a damper to reduce steering wheel vibration experienced by the driver. The DAB is still securely attached to the steering wheel but now has specially tuned isolators to allow a small amount of damping movement of the DAB. A driver of these vehicles may, at times, notice this movement or vibration of the DAB within the steering wheel compared to past systems; however, this is normal and an expected function of the damping system.
