Service bulletin 21B58

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Certain 2020-2021 Model Year Transit Vehicles Equipped with 3.5L PFDI Engines Inactive Smart Acceleration Truncation Feature In all of the affected vehicles, the Smart Acceleration Truncation (SAT) feature is non-functional. The SAT feature is intended to provide common performance for an empty vehicle as would be expected for a fully loaded vehicle. The feature restricts the acceleration capability for empty vehicles where drivers utilize significant accelerator pedal input. When the SAT feature is non-functional, drivers who reach elevated torque/acceleration rates will not see the desired torque de-rate that the feature is expected to deliver.

Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component
TSB 23-20152023-01-31. Service bulletin. 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles with 2.7L, 3.3L, 3.5L EcoBoost or 5.0L engines, 2020-2022 Transit vehicles with 3.5L Duratec/3.5L EcoBoost engines, 2023 Bronco with the 2.3L engine having charging system diagnostics performed in the Workshop Manual (WSM) may experience the generator voltage desired (GENVDSD) parameter identification (PID) missing from the powertrain control module (PCM) PID list in the Ford Diagnosis And Repair System (FDRS) scan tool. This may be due to a software parameter in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.
TSB 21-23212021-09-30. Service bulletin. Some 2020-2021 Transit vehicles may exhibit a harsh engagement into drive. The vehicle may or may not have an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0772 and/or P2704 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to sticking valves in the main control valve body. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to perform the transmission accelerated main control break-in routine and/or overhaul the main control valve body.
SSM 498212021-06-01. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris. For claiming, use causal part 6M280 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 492852020-11-04. Service bulletin. Some 2020 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Duratec and built on or before 22-Sep-2020 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp with any combination of the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): P02EE, P02EF, P02F0, P02F1, P02F2, and/or P02F3. This may be due to the PCM strategy. Perform a keep alive memory (KAM) reset prior any diagnostics or repairs. The KAM reset clears the KAM to a default setting rather than zero. For claiming, use causal part 12A650 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 491292020-09-02. Service bulletin. Some 2020 Transit vehicles built on or before 12-Feb-2020 may exhibit a transmission fluid leak at the transmission fluid cooler. When replacing the transmission fluid cooler, also replace the transmission fluid cooler bracket. Perform the adjustment procedure when reattaching the selector lever cable. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-05. Clear the transmission adaptive tables and perform an Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle using the appropriate scan tool. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01. Advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days and will improve over time.
