Service bulletin SSM 49844

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Some 2016 F-Super Duty/F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine built on or before 15-Feb-2016 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P054F stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be caused by the torque converter one way clutch. To correct the condition, perform the torque converter stall speed test. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 307-01B > Special Testing Procedures > Stall Speed Test. For this specific condition, the line pressure test is not required prior to performing the stall speed test. If engine stall speed does not reach the minimum RPM range specified, replace the torque converter, torque convertor hub seal, and fluid filter. Perform the transmission fluid cooler backflushing and cleaning procedure and refill the fluid. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01B.

SSM 550982026-08-25. Service bulletin. Some 2013-2016 Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and 2015-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may not pass a state smog test due to the exhaust gas system (EGS) monitor that will not run after completing the exhaust gas sensor drive cycle located within Section 2 of the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnostics (PC/ED) Manual > Drive Cycles. This may be due to the vehicles diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) age counter being under the 120-minute age requirement. There is an all-new "PCM Catalytic Converter Age Evaluation" application within the latest version of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). Use this new FDRS application to determine the age (in minutes) of the DOC. If the age is less than 120 minutes, perform manual regenerations to increase the catalyst age counter to satisfy the monitor age requirement. If further assistance is needed, contact the technical assistance center (TAC). Note: this article only applies to the EGS monitor. Problems with other vehicle monitors not running successfully must be addressed using normal diagnostics located i
SSM 518542023-09-04. Service bulletin. Various 2013-2019 vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P264F after powertrain control module (PCM) replacement. This DTC indicates that the engine serial number (ESN) must be programmed into the PCM. The ESN is located on PTS > Diagnostics tab > HVBoM > Features > Engine Serial Number. Once the ESN is obtained from the historical vehicle bill of materials (HvBOM), it can be programmed into the PCM using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Navigate to the toolbox tab> powertrain menu> Service Functions> ESN.
SSM 518492023-09-01. The ESN is located on PTS> OASIS> Features> Engine Serial Number. Once the ESN is obtained from the historical vehicle bill of materials (HvBOM), it can be programmed into the PCM using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Navigate to the toolbox tab> powertrain menu> Service Functions> ESN.
SSM 516912023-06-16. Service bulletin. 2011-2023 F-Super Duty and 2016-2024 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages.
TSB 22-23562022-09-30. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2019 F-Super Duty vehicles may experience a transmission fluid leak from a cracked transmission case or transmission fluid pan. This may be due to a driveline vibration condition. For vehicles that have a concern with a cracked transmission case (Figures 1-2) or fluid pan (Figures 3-4), the rear driveline imbalance most often is the root cause of this concern. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the rear driveline.
SSM 506362022-03-29. Service bulletin. 2011-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2023 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. SSM 505492022-03-08. Service bulletin. Some 2018-2020 F-150, 2017-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2022 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may exhibit diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0000 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) after an on-demand self test. This DTC is due to a processing error in the PCM as a result of on-demand self testing. P0000 is an invalid DTC that will not illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and no repairs should be performed.
SSM 504492022-02-04. Service bulletin. Some 2016 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P04E3 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) after reprogramming the PCM software for various reasons. Vehicles built on or after 11-Nov-2015 are not equipped with a crankcase ventilation sensor (CRNKCSVT). This DTC may be caused by incorrect PCM programming. To correct the condition, start a new vehicle session and run the PCM Programmable Module Installation (PMI). The IDS scan tool will ask to verify the style of the connector on the crankcase vent (CCV) hose. Answering this prompt incorrectly will cause DTC P04E3 to be stored in the PCM. A new Technical Support Video has been added to PTS at: http://site-307934.bcvp0rtal.com/detail/videos/303---engine/video/6294017439001/p04e3-after-pcm-reprogramming-on-14-16-my-6.7l-super-duties.
