Service bulletin SA-15-047

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

A DEF system equipped truck may come in to the dealer with a coimplaint that the MIL is on and DTC P142A is stored in the DCU. This DTC can set when the pump temperature sensor signal is out of the expected range when coimpared to other temperature inputs. If the P142A code is encountered, clear the code and release the truck. Do Not replace the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pump because it may result in a warranty chargeback, if the pump assembly is replaced when not required. This coinditiion may be related to an engine ECU software condition that will be addressed in an upcoming engine ECU soft ware update. For additional information on this coincern, please see TT-15-025
