# Service bulletin B160319

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10178993
- Published by NHTSA: 2020\-08\-31
- Manufacturer's number: B160319
- Manufacturer's date: 2020\-07\-01
- NHTSA component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

## NHTSA's summary

NOISES FROM THE FUEL TANK AT IDLE: All vehicles except the F48 \(X1\): While driving slowly with low RPM or while idling a faint knocking or fluttering noise can be heard from inside the fuel tank with a low fuel level \(approximately less than 2 gallons\). The customer may describe this noise as a "helicopter noise" from the rear of the vehicle. F48 \(X1\) only: While driving slowly with low RPM or while idling a faint knocking or fluttering noise can be heard from inside the fuel tank when the tank is full. The customer may describe this noise as a "helicopter noise" from the rear of the vehicle. CAUSE Pressure fluctuations from the tank ventilation valve will cause the fuel tank filler pipe non\-return valve to vibrate. In some cases, the vibration can be heard inside the vehicle.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [B610321](/bulletins/10250893.md), 2024-03-02, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS:CANISTER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. SITUATION BMW AG is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall \(effective April 23, 2021\) on a certain Model Year 2020 \- 2021 BMW vehicles that were produced between August 13, 2019 and December 11, 2020. Do not deliver to a customer, a New, Certified Pre\-Owned or Used vehicle subject to an emissions recall, until the vehicle is repaired. Do not use or sell replacement equipment/parts subject to an emissions recall. The 12 V battery’s dual storage system \(DSS\) may contain a software error which intermittently causes a continuous resetting of the microcontroller and communication failure. The error is displayed by a red Check Control message.
- [B160123](/bulletins/10249015.md), 2024-02-01, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. A vehicle arrives at your center to be diagnosed for a micro\-leak in the fuel evaporative \(EVAP\) system\(NVLD natural vacuum leak detection\). For this condition, the following fault is stored in the DME: 190302 \- fuel tank ventilation and scavenging air system, micro\-leak: leakage more than 0.5mm For: Model vehicles other that the ones listed above, or for EVAP faults related to a “large leak,” after confirming that the fuel filler cap is fitted properly, then, proceed to follow the corresponding test plan
- [B160623](/bulletins/10247567.md), 2024-01-03, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Engine will crank but not start. There is no communication with the integrated fuel module \(TFE\) whendiagnosing with ISTA. The following two fault codes will be stored in the DME: 032B43 \- Low fuel pressure system, electric fuel pump: pressure value too low CDA594 \- Message \(\- 0x33E\) missing, receiver DME, transmitter TFE
- [B160123](/bulletins/10239602.md), 2023-07-24, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. A vehicle arrives at your center to be diagnosed for a micro\-leak in the fuel evaporative \(EVAP\) system \(NVLD natural vacuum leak detection\). For this condition, the following fault is stored in the DME: 190302 \- fuel tank ventilation and scavenging air system, micro\-leak: leakage more than 0.5 mm.
- [B010919](/bulletins/10230717.md), 2023-01-30, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. For the eligible vehicles, BMW of North America, LLC \(BMW NA\) is extending the limited warranty for the vehicle's Fuel Injectors to 10 years/120,000 miles as determined by the vehicle's original in\-service date.
- [B170121](/bulletins/10214256.md), 2022-06-21, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. The quick disconnect coupling on the cylinder head coolant vent line could break at the cylinder head. This would lead to loss of coolant from the engine.
- [B170121](/bulletins/10212788.md), 2022-05-31, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The quick disconnect coupling on the cylinder head coolant vent line could break at the cylinder head. This would lead to loss of coolant from the engine.
- [B110521](/bulletins/10212784.md), 2022-05-31, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The belt pulley on the mechanical coolant pump may fracture allowing the engine drive belt to come off the coolant pump and alternator.
- [B010722](/bulletins/10212780.md), 2022-05-31, Service bulletin: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Component and Issue Specific Limited Emission Warranty Extension. This bulletin is notice of a limited emission warranty extension. This is NOT a notice of a Recall or Service Action. There is no immediate repair required unless the BMW vehicle is currently experiencing this problem. Customer Notification Letter Even though this is NOT a Recall, BMW NA is sending VIN\-specific customer notification letters. The plastic fuel tank has two openings, one at the top right and the other at the top left. The top right opening \(passenger's side, serviceable\) provides a mounting point and repair access to the intake fuel pump/level sensor assembly. The top left opening \(driver's side, non\-serviceable\) serves as an access point for the installation of the suction jet pump/level sensor assembly during the fuel tank manufacturing process. After these components are installed, the top left side opening is then permanently closed and sealed with the installation of a circular Coex biopolymer plastic cover plate which is welded into place. Over time, the left side opening plastic cover plate weld may become damaged. Should this occur, there is the possibility of fuel leakage. Additionally, your vehicle will store the corresponding fault codes that may also be generated, and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp \(MIL\) will illuminate.
- [B110521](/bulletins/10208176.md), 2022-02-22, Service bulletin: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. The belt pulley on the mechanical coolant pump may fracture allowing the engine drive belt to come off the coolant pump and alternator.
