# Service bulletin SSM 48976

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10177887
- Published by NHTSA: 2020\-08\-04
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 48976

- NHTSA component: EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2021 E\-Series/F\-650/F\-750 vehicles may exhibit inoperative RKE key fobs or some customers may seek service to program additional key fobs to the vehicle. Inform customers that Ford is developing an IDS procedure that is expected late August 2020, which will restore RKE function and allow for programming additional RKE key fobs. The Workshop Manual procedure for RKE programming is also being updated. Because these vehicles have a new generation body control module \(BCM\), replacement of the BCM is no longer the recommended repair procedure. Advise the customer they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow\-up appointment for service in late August. Once the update becomes available, contact the customer and confirm the service appointment is going forward. Monitor OASIS for updates.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SSM 54601](/bulletins/11029052.md), 2026-02-27, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STRUCTURE:BODY; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with wired keyless entry keypad systems and accessory wireless keyless entry keypad systems may or may not come with a wallet card containing the master code. Unlike the integrated wired keypad, the accessory wireless keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool or from the label printed on the body control module \(BCM\). The Factory Keyless Entry Code application within the diagnostic scan tool will not provide an applicable master code for the accessory wireless keypad. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is not available, the "Wireless RF Keypad Diagnosis Guide" can be referenced and provides direction on how to retrieve the master code. This guide is located under the Workshop Manual tab \> Accessories \> Installation \> Wireless RF Keypad Diagnosis Guide \> PPT C \> Step C2.\<br /\>\<br /\> Note: The only available keypad for some vehicles from the assembly plant is the accessory wireless keyless entry keypad. The integrated wired keypad cannot be installed on vehicles not equipped from the factory with a wired keyless entry k
- [25H05](/bulletins/11026013.md), 2025-12-03, Other: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. This is a proactive investigation program by Ford Motor Company to inspect a limited number of affected vehicles that are customer\-owned. Ford is voluntarily conducting this program to evaluate the software currently installed on one or more electronic modules in the affected vehicles.
- [TSB 25\-2322](/bulletins/11020894.md), 2025-07-24, Service bulletin: POWER TRAIN; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This article supersedes TSB 25\-2200 to update the parts list to add the new camshaft and tappet service kit and add F\-650/F\-750. Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit an upper engine ticking or tapping noise at idle. Customers may also report experiencing rough engine performance, engine misfire, or a malfunction indicator lamp \(MIL\) with diagnostic trouble code \(DTC\) P0301\-P0308 in the powertrain control module \(PCM\). This may be due to camshaft and/or valve tappet having excess wear within the engine assembly.
- [SSM 52476](/bulletins/10254138.md), 2024-05-03, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT. All accessory stick\-on keyless entry keypads come with a wallet card containing the master code. If the accessory keypad was factory installed, this card will be placed in the glove box and should be handed to the vehicles owner during initial delivery. Unlike the integrated \(wired\) factory keypad, the accessory keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is lost, follow these steps to recover the code. Dealer Key Code access is granted through the Dealer Program Enrollment System \(DPES\); dealership management can authorize users. The authorized user must go to FMCDealer.com \> Parts and Service \> Parts Product Line Information \> Keys/Entry Devices \> Aftermarket Keyless Entry Keypad Code Access. Follow the instructions on the screen to obtain the master code for the accessory keypad.

- [SSM 52307](/bulletins/10250852.md), 2024-03-05, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020\-2023 Ford and Lincoln SYNC3 equipped vehicles may experience an inaccurate notification in the FordPass®/LincolnWay® app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode. Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode message is expected if the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module \(BCM\) 12 volt battery state of charge \(SoC\) drops below 50%. If the vehicle is going into deep sleep due to one of these conditions, follow normal Workshop Manual \(WSM\) Section 414\-01 procedure to correct the concern. If the vehicle is going into deep sleep outside these conditions, this may be due to the telematics control unit \(TCU\) software. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the TCU to the latest software. For claiming, use causal part 14G229 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.

Some 2021\-2023 E\-Series vehicles may exhibit a lack of air flow due to an inoperative heating, ventilation, and air conditioning \(HVAC\) blower motor. This may be due to a damaged fuse F2 \(50A\) in the battery junction box \(BJB\). To correct the condition, replace the BJB, pigtail connector, and replace fuse F2 in the new BJB with the listed service replacement part.
