Service bulletin 07-161-19
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary
This Service Information Bulletin announces a design change made to the side curtain and knee airbag modules on the models listed above to optimize commonization with the Japanese production parts. The change involves the mixture ratio of Argon to Helium used in the inflator gas: • OLD gas ratio: 94% Argon, 6% Helium • NEW gas ratio: 96% Argon, 4% Helium. All other specifications of these modules are unchanged.

| 07-149-19 | 2019-05-20. Service bulletin. This Service Information bulletin serves a quick reminder to always perform the Clear Memory function of the Airbag system using the Subaru Select Monitor 4 after replacement of any airbag system sensor. Failure to do so will most likely result in the sensor-related DTC(s) remaining in memory, Airbag warning light illumination and possible unnecessary component replacement. Clearing DTCs after a repair then confirming codes do not return is the most effective method of verifying a proper repair and should always be performed. |

| 17-17-13R | 2018-05-29. Service bulletin. NOTE: The Airbag systems used on previous and current WRX, STI and Tribeca models are NOT equipped with EDR functionality. This Bulletin provides information regarding Event Data Recorder (EDR) functionality which has been incorporated into the airbag system. The function of the EDR is best explained using the following statements found in the vehicle Owner?s Manual: ?This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in the understanding how a vehicle?s systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: ? How various systems in your vehicle were operating; ? Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; ? How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; ? How fast the vehicle was traveling. This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur. |
