NHTSA's summary

N192213720 - Emissions - General Motors has decided to conduct a voluntary emissions recall involving certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD/5500HD/6500HD vehicles equipped with a diesel engine. The engine control module (ECM) in these vehicles does not properly diagnose malfunctions of Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor #5. If engine control system diagnostic tests determine that this temperature sensor is not performing as expected, the control system becomes locked in a pending fault state. When this happens, the system cannot illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or clear the pending fault state, even when normal temperature sensor performance is confirmed. While in the pending fault state, other diagnostic tests may not run, and exhaust braking performance capability may be reduced. Dealers are to reprogram the engine control module with modified software.
