# Service bulletin SSM 48130

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10164508
- Published by NHTSA: 2019\-09\-06
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 48130
- Manufacturer's date: 2019\-08\-09
- NHTSA component: VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR; VISIBILITY

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2010\-2020 vehicles may exhibit distorted glass with a subtle orange peel pattern or streaking etched into the surface. This is caused by hydrofluoric acid which is used in some car wash solutions as a cleaning agent. Hydrofluoric acid can attack the glass and cause visual distortion and/or discoloration on the outer surface which cannot be removed by further cleaning. If this type of distortion is found, inspect the area of the glass that is covered by the cowl and/or molding. The portion of glass that is covered by the cowl or molding will not be affected by the acid. Hydrofluoric acid damage is not a defect in material or workmanship and is not a warrantable condition.

## Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component

- [SSM 55069](/bulletins/11036103.md), 2026-08-11, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY/WIPER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STRUCTURE:BODY. Some 2020\-2025 Explorer vehicles equipped with a power roof opening panel may exhibit a sunshield with localized bunching or binding/inoperative. This may be due to a broken or missing sunshield fabric retainer/clip. A revised sunshield clip \(LJ6Z\-5452118\-B\) is now available to address this condition. It is not necessary to replace the entire sunshield assembly if the clip\(s\) are broken or missing. Refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\), Section 501\-17 Roof Opening Panel \> General Procedures \> Inspection and Replacement of the Roof Opening Panel Shield Clip.
- [26N09](/bulletins/11034228.md), 2026-07-01, Other: VISIBILITY/WIPER. Customer Satisfaction Program 26N09 Certain 2020 Model Year Escape, 2020\-2021 Corsair, 2020\-2021 Aviator, and 2020\- 2021 and 2023 Explorer Vehicles Front Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement, if Required After Dealer Evaluation
- [25N15](/bulletins/11027801.md), 2026-01-27, Other: VISIBILITY/WIPER. Certain 2015\-2019 Model Year Multiple Vehicle Lines Rear View Camera Inspection For One\-Time Replacemen
- [25N15](/bulletins/11026915.md), 2026-01-03, Other: VISIBILITY/WIPER; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Certain 2015\-2019 Model Year Multiple Vehicle Lines Rear View Camera Inspection For One\-Time Replacement
- [SSM 54067](/bulletins/11020957.md), 2025-07-30, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; VISIBILITY/WIPER. For 2018\-2024 Edge and 2018\-2025 Mustang vehicles, if diagnostics lead to the sun visor as the causal part, a new lower level part is available \(DS7Z\-9904132\-A\). It is not necessary to replace the sun visor assembly if only the clip is damaged.
- [SSM 51829](/bulletins/10240719.md), 2023-08-14, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT; VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES. Some F\-Super Duty and F\-150 vehicles equipped with trailer tow mirror may exhibit various exterior rear view mirror functional concerns that require replacement after diagnosis. To properly determine if the defect is warrantable, cleaning and close inspection of the affected mirror may be required. To aid in proper warranty determination, the Rear\-View Mirror Analysis general service bulletin \(GSB\) has been updated with a detailed cleaning procedure that should be followed prior to any inspection. New labor operations \(17682ZZ or 17682ZZT\) have been created that covers the cleaning and inspection process and may be used even if condition of failure is non\-warrantable. Ford has inspected numerous returned parts and determined many cases are caused by damage which is unwarrantable and may be subject to chargeback. Refer to the latest version of the GSB on OASIS.
- [SSM 51469](/bulletins/10233745.md), 2023-04-05, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM. Some 2021 F\-150 vehicles built on or before 01\-Feb\-2021, 2017\-2020 F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine, 2018\-2020 F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost or 5.0L engine, 2019\-2020 F\-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine may exhibit a high pitched squeal or whistle type noise from the engine compartment after the engine is shut off. This condition may be due to the air conditioning \(A/C\) low side system pressure exceeding the high side pressure resulting in equalization of A/C system pressures through the A/C compressor. An updated A/C compressor has been released to resolve this concern. For claiming, use causal part 19703 and applicable labor operations in Section 11 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.
- [SSM 51291](/bulletins/10230788.md), 2023-01-31, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD. Some 2013\-2019 Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, equipped with spotlights, require left and/or right windshield applique/moulding modification if these parts are replaced. Spotlight mounting holes are not present on new replacement windshield appliques/moldings and must be cut using a rotary tool or equivalent. Left and/or right windshield applique/moulding spotlight mounting hole templates are available on the Professional Technician Society \(PTS\) at Service Tips/Technical Communications and can be printed on an 11X17 inch sheet of paper. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 501\-08 for windshield applique/moulding replacement procedures.
- [SSM 51265](/bulletins/10228881.md), 2023-01-06, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles equipped with power folding mirrors may exhibit power folding mirrors that are inoperative or exhibit a clicking sound. This may be due to the mirrors being manually folded in, during transportation, going through a car wash, bumped in a parking lot, or found during pre\-delivery inspection \(PDI\). Prior to the replacement of any components, attempt to synchronize the mirrors by following the Power Mirrors Synchronization procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual \(WSM\) Section 501\-09 Rear View Mirrors \- General Procedures \- Power Mirrors Synchronization.
- [TSB 22\-2349](/bulletins/10220381.md), 2022-09-23, Service bulletin: VISIBILITY; STRUCTURE. This article supersedes TSB 22\-2095 to update the vehicles affected. Some 2021\-2022 F\-150 and F\-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a B and O audio system may exhibit the rear window glass sliding panel rattling when in the open position and music is playing. This may be due to a low amount of seal extrusion pressure provided by the rear window glass sliding rail and/or the rear window glass sliding panel defroster wire harness vibrating between the two panels of glass. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to install the rear window glass sliding panel service kit.
