# Service bulletin SSM 47739

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

- Type: Service bulletin
- NHTSA id: 10153924
- Published by NHTSA: 2019\-03\-04
- Manufacturer's number: SSM 47739
- Manufacturer's date: 2019\-01\-09
- NHTSA component: EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; TIRES

## NHTSA's summary

Some 2019 Nautilus vehicles may encounter an issue during the EPDI process where the vehicle does not communicate properly or the EPDI tool will not accept the tire placard specification of 33 psi for 245/60R18 tire size equipped units. If the vehicle fails to communicate during EPDI, technicians should disable transport mode by depressing the brake pedal 5 times and then turning the hazards on/off twice within 10 seconds of turning the key on. Proceed with the inspection and manually enter the results into the online tool. The concern of not being able to communicate with the EPDI tool is not indicative of a vehicle issue. Submission of the inspection results using the online tool is required for claims payment of PDI allowance. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.

- [SSM 54116](/bulletins/11021803.md), 2025-08-12, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Various 2019\-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 may experience a partially or fully black center display screen at start\-up using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This does not affect rear camera operation. This may be due to interference from the phone being connected into the media hub using a universal serial bus \(USB\) cable during SYNC system boot up. To correct his condition, advise the customer to disconnect the USB cable from the phone. If the center display screen displays normally, reconnect the phone. If the concern persists, disconnect the phone from the USB cable, cycle the ignition off and open the driver's door so the interior lights come on. Close the door, start the vehicle and wait for the center display screen to boot up past the start\-up animation and display the home screen, then reconnect the phone using the USB cable. If the concern persists after this procedure, follow normal Workshop Manual diagnostics for a blank screen concern.
- [SSM 52076](/bulletins/10245389.md), 2023-11-21, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE \(4\-WHEEL DRIVE\). Some 2019\-2021 Edge/Nautilus vehicles equipped with all wheel drive \(AWD\) may exhibit a noise from the rear of the vehicle while approaching the vehicle or prior to starting engine. This may be due to the rear drive unit \(RDU\) actuator learning process. Reprogram the software in the AWD module to minimize the noise using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. If no other concerns or symptoms are present, further diagnosis or repairs are not recommended. For claiming, use causal part 4000 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards \(SLTS\) Manual.
- [TSB 23\-2307](/bulletins/10244707.md), 2023-11-02, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM\(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM\); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT:SOFTWARE. Some 2019\-2020 Edge/F\-150/Fusion/Continental/MKZ/Nautilus, 2019\-2021 Mustang/Ranger/Transit Connect, 2020\-2021 EcoSport/Escape/Expedition/Explorer/F\-Super Duty/Aviator/Corsair/Navigator, 2021 Bronco Sport and 2020\-2022 Explorer/Aviator vehicles with SYNC 3 may experience various SYNC performance related concerns. This may be due to the SYNC Software. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the SYNC module \(APIM\) software.
- [TSB 23\-2237](/bulletins/10243471.md), 2023-10-03, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT. Some 2019\-2022 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit the rubber seal between the spoiler support and the liftgate coming loose. This may be due to poor adhesion between the spoiler and the rubber seal. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace spoiler support rubber seal.
- [SSM 51838](/bulletins/10241627.md), 2023-09-04, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In various 2017\-2023 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, customers may receive a message in the FordPass or LincolnWay App stating Feature Unavailable. Since this is a fleet vehicle, it cannot access the \(SYNC Connect\) FordPass or LincolnWay app through the TCU Embedded Modem. If this message appears, the vehicle may be equipped with a fleet telematics module. Replacement of the TCU or TCU related repairs will not prevent this message from appearing. Refer the customer to in app FordPass Guides or LincolnWay Concierge Teams to aid with fleet telematics removal. Open app, select Account \> Help \> CHAT or CALL option.
- [SSM 51823](/bulletins/10240577.md), 2023-08-11, Service bulletin: UNKNOWN OR OTHER; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; POWER TRAIN. Some 2019\-2023 Edge/Nautilus, 2020\-2023 Escape/Corsair, 2021\-2023 Bronco Sport, 2022\-2023 Maverick vehicles equipped with all wheel drive \(AWD\) may exhibit chatter/shudder during low speed turning events. This may be due to fluid contamination in the rear drive unit \(RDU\). Drain and refill the RDU, refer to Workshop Manual Section \(WSM\) 205\-02. Drive for 5 miles \(8 km\) in stop and go conditions with right and left turns and re\-evaluate. If the issue is still present, continue with normal WSM diagnostics. - [SSM 50982](/bulletins/10217830.md), 2022-08-15, Service bulletin: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. Some 2018\-2022 Ford/Lincoln vehicles equipped with a wireless charging pad may exhibit one of the following if the customer is using a Magsafe iPhone \(iPhone 12 or 13\): slow charging, inoperative, notification that the phone has been mispositioned on the charging pad and/or the phone charging icon in the center screen display is not showing. This may be due to a compatibility issue between the customer's phone and the wireless accessory charging module \(WACM\) that may make it difficult for Ford and Lincoln vehicles to wirelessly charge these specific phones. The phone can still be charged using the USB cable if the vehicle experiences the above symptoms. If the customer is using a Magsafe iPhone such as an iPhone 12 or 13, verify the wireless charging pad works with a Qi certified phone prior to any part replacements.
- [SSM 50975](/bulletins/10217028.md), 2022-08-02, Service bulletin: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2017\-2022 Ford/Lincoln customers may experience a notification in the FordPass®/LincolnWay® app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode. This occurs when the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module \(BCM\) 12 volt battery state of charge \(SOC\) drops below 50%. A warning may also set if the telematic control unit \(TCU\) has received an over the air update. The TCU powers down all communication when in this mode and app features are disabled. Manually start the vehicle to wake if from mode. More information is located in the app under: Account \> Help \> search 'Deep Sleep' in the entry box. If the condition remains, check the BCM 12v SOC. If the SOC does not change after charging the battery or after BMS reset is performed, continue with normal battery and/or BMS sensor diagnostics.
