NHTSA's summary

Half Shafts If you are changing the half shafts on these vehicles due to boot leak concern then please understand that silicone boots are known to have a phenomenon known as ?boot sweat? because of the porous nature of Silicone, the internal grease can ?seep? through to the boots surface giving the appearance of a leak. During hoist inspection please thoroughly wipe and clean the boot with a clean shop rag and then carefully examine the boot for cuts or tears where grease is escaping from the boot. If a cut or tear is present or if the grease is leaking from the clamp area, please go ahead and change the half shaft.
