NHTSA's summary
BMW is committed to delivering the ultimate in product satisfaction to you, our customer. Our interest in your vehicle does not end with its sale; it continues throughout the warranty period and beyond. We have become aware of a potential problem that could affect the durability of a vapor recovery diagnostic pump on certain MY 2009 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles. We estimate that only a small percentage of vehicles will actually develop a problem and the Service Engine Soon lamp would be illuminated. The vehicle?s safety, drivability or engine performance is not affected, but fault diagnosis of the vapor recovery system could be affected. As a commitment to our customers and to demonstrate our confidence in our product, BMW will extend the emissions warranty for the diagnostic pump to10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first.
