Service bulletin BMWSEP1013
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary
N14 Timing Chain Tensioner Service Action. A service action to check the N14 timing chain tensioner/chain has been released. Refer to M11 04 13 in TIS for repair instructions, parts and warranty information. Notification letters advising customers to schedule a service appointment will be mailed this week. An initial supply of the repair kit has been shipped to each dealer. The repair kit does not include the one-time use camshaft and crankshaft bolts or the profile gasket set. These parts are only needed if the results of the checking procedure indicate replacement of the timing chain. The supply is limited and orders should only be placed for a scheduled service appointment. Orders should not be placed for more than 10 repair kits (or associated small parts) at a time, as they are not needed on all vehicles and the labor involved is approximately 5.5 hours. There is enough stock on order with Germany, that if dealers order accordingly a backorder situation can be avoided.
The document
The document is the manufacturer's. This site does not hold it. NHTSA files a document at one of these two addresses; we have not asked NHTSA which.
