Service bulletin M010513

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

Bodyguard(r) Exterior Paint Finish Protection. As part of our ongoing quality improvements, all MINI vehicles arriving at your dealer are fitted with a protective film (Bodyguard(r)) on the hood, trunk lid and hardtop roof surfaces. As we stated in a separate communication, we encourage you to keep the Bodyguard protection on the vehicles while in storage - especially stock vehicles stored outside - until time of delivery preparation and customer handover. For the next six months, we are piloting a revised policy to permit warranty claims for damage found when the protective film is eventually removed. Important: The Bodyguard film must not remain on any vehicle beyond six (6) months from its date of production.
